Everyone wants to be safe. Everyone views safety as a top priority for this country. In fact, anyone who wishes against President Trump’s success in making this country safer again and defeating ISIS is ridiculous. On Friday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order stopping all refugees from entering the United States and those fleeing the war in Syria indefinitely. It bans all visas from seven countries: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Somalia and Sudan, whose populations are mostly Muslim. Without notification to world leaders nor to airport and border patrols, the abrupt ban of course caused a plethora of confusion nation and worldwide. I want America to be safe, but this ban is un-American, and in my opinion lacking rationality as well.
From 1975-2015, the number of American citizens killed by citizens from these areas are as followed:
Iraq – 0
Iran- 0
Syria- 0
Yemen- 0
Libya- 0
Somalia- 0
Sudan- 0
On the contrary, if we are going to go with the logic of banning entry to countries that appear to be of threat, the ones that appear to be, are not included in this ban. The number of American citizens killed by citizens from Saudi Arabia since 1975 is 2,369, from United Arab Emirates is 314 and 162 from Egypt. I cannot understand why these areas wouldn't be included as well.
Further, according to ACLU:
“Former senior U.S. military commanders, diplomats, and homeland security officials, both Democrats and Republicans, have publicly stated that a block on refugees from Syria and other Muslim countries is contrary to U.S. security interests because it feeds the ISIS narrative that there is a war between Islam and the West and that Muslims are not welcome in the United States.”
Trump has defended the ban claiming that it is not a Muslim ban, however, favored the entrance of Christians. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this seems to be a violation to the first amendment’s establishment clause stating that government cannot prefer or disfavor any specific religion. I also don’t understand how lawful immigrants, already in America, can be detained and deported.
Kellyanne Conway, said on "Fox News Sunday", “325,000 people from overseas came into this country just yesterday through our airports….You’re talking about 300 and some who have been detained or are prevented from gaining access to an aircraft in their home countries,” she continued to say, “That's 1 percent. And I think in terms of the upside being greater protection of our borders, of our people, it’s a small price to pay.”
This ban causes more than just an inconvenience for those effected, and this is why we need to #makempathygreatagain in this country. Being separated and denied the right to go home, to go back to school for classes, to be with daughters, sons, mothers and fathers, and being denied an escape from danger, is more than an inconvenience. These are real people being affected, just like you and I. Many aren’t able to empathize if it’s not their reality, and that needs to change.
“We don’t want them here”, is what President Trump said. Diversity makes this nation beautiful and I just hope that around the world, people see the masses fighting and protesting at airports around the country, and I hope they realize that he does speak for us all. He does not represent us all. #nohate #nofear #refugeesarewelcomehere
