From the smell of buttered popcorn to the anticipation of waiting for the side lighting to dim, seeing a movie in the theater is an experience for the ages. Ever since I was little and saw "Lilo and Stitch" at our local AMC, I was hooked. So for those of you who are also fans of viewing cinema on the big screen, here are some of my favorite assets to the magic of motion pictures.
We have all heard of the infamous first date to the movies. The awkward hand holding that makes your heart race and distracts you from anything happening on the screen. When you're trying not to chew the popcorn too loud, or maybe you didn't get any at all because you were too nervous. But despite all of the tense muscles and sweaty palms, some how seeing a movie with your crush brings a rush of joy and perfectly lovely moment.
And then there are the movies you go to when you really don't have anything better to do. Maybe your plans fell through and you are with a group of friends who are dying to get out of the house. Or maybe a family get together is just not going as planned, and it seems that no one can agree on an activity. Although the decision of which movie to see may still bring about a bit of a tussle, it always turns out to be a wonderful pastime no matter the circumstance.
And we must not forget about the anxious excitement of those midnight premieres you had been waiting for for months. Through my childhood, I was lucky enough to experience the unveiling of multiple "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" films. All of these involved dressing up in costumes, gathering a group of your closest magic and vampire loving friends, and camping out in a line of fans that stretched out the door, all waiting to witness the phenomenon.
Although I have never truly been a fan of horror films, I am sure there are a handful of reasons why some are itching to see yet another Insidious movie. But as someone who will experience endless nightmares at the mere mention of "The Ring," I will never quite understand it.
So whether you are a cinematography fanatic, or in the mood for a good love story. Whether you are looking for some Hulk smashing action or a dramatic montage, going to the movies has always been a place to escape for a little while. A place where you can get lost in a story, other than the one playing outside those swinging doors. A place where you can sit back, relax, and just enjoy the show.
