"Oh, baby, you should go and love yourself".... Okay, Justin Bieber, maybe I will.
So many people look to others to find happiness when it really needs to come from within. "Self-acceptance is an individual's satisfaction or happiness with oneself, and is thought to be necessary for good mental health."
Realize no one is perfect.
Crazy, right???? Even the girl you envy most has her off days. She gets pimples, she gets embarrassed, she has bad hair days, and she`s been 100 weeks deep into someone`s Instagram feed before and accidentally liked a picture too. The idea that there are girls out there that have "perfect lives" is just putting more stress and pressure onto everyone one else. She still fights with her boyfriend, her parents have probably grounded her more times than she can remember, and I am sure some type of editing tool was used in the process of posting the picture she just posted.. (Come on, we all do it.) SOCIAL MEDIA IS RUINING SELF ESTEEM!!
So, that brings me to my next point....
Don`t spend all of your time on social media.
Stop judging yourself based on how many likes you got on your last picture, or if your latest tweet has gotten any retweets. We look at ourselves compared to others. "I wish I were as skinny as her," "Her hair is so perfect," "Wow I wish I had boobs like that." I know personally, I wish every day that things about myself looked different. Admiring people is always a nice thing, why try to look nice if no one cares? But downing ourselves because we perceive someone to be prettier is doing ourselves an injustice.
Give compliments!
Feeling good on the outside starts with feeling good on the inside. Don`t you love it when someone tells you that they love your shoes? (If you said no, you are a liar.) If you have never gone out of your way to say something nice to someone- especially a stranger- you are missing out. It feels good to make other people smile, why not do it more often? What do you have to lose?
Let go of the grudges.
Being bitter is only bringing yourself down. Be the bigger person, move on, and be happy. You deserve that more than anything else. Letting go of something gives you a fresh start. A blank canvas... A new beginning. Everyone loves someone that always has a smile on their face, why don`t you try to be that someone?
