10 Things I Love About Texas

Although I am not a Texas native, I have certainly learned to appreciate this great state. Over the years, I struggled to answer the question "what's your favorite place that you have lived?" I always gave the same cliche response: "I like them all for different reasons." Now, I finally have an answer; Texas is my favorite state. There are so many things that make Texas so unique. I love so many things about Texas, but here are just a few.

Whataburger

Sure, you can get a burger from anywhere. But why would you get one from anywhere but Whataburger? These burgers are one of a kind and the fries are amazing.

Dublin Dr Pepper

What’s better than soda made from pure cane sugar? I probably don’t need all the sugar that it contains, but their Root Beer is my favorite.

No state income tax

Although I don’t currently have a job, this is a great benefit. I know that I will be extremely grateful for this when I start working.

So many things to do

Four big cities and hundreds of things to do. There is never a dull moment in this huge state. I feel as if I am far from everything but it takes a moment to get anywhere.

Bluebonnets

This state flower is absolutely gorgeous. Although they only blossom once a year, it is not hard to find them during those short weeks.

The sky

Whether it’s sunrise or sunset, or somewhere in between, the Texas sky is a beautiful sight. When I miss home and I wonder why I chose Texas, I look at the sky and I am reminded how amazing Texas is.

Buc-ee’s

I don’t go to Houston often, but when I do I never miss an opportunity to stop at Buc-ee’s. My personal favorites are the Sweet and Spicy Beef Jerky and the Heath Fudge.

Blue Bell

When Blue Bell came back to stores in recently, Texans everywhere were ecstatic. My friends tried to convince me that it would be the best ice cream I would ever eat. I was hesitant, but Blue Bell really is unlike any other ice cream.

History

Texas is so rich in a history of its own. There are many special things about the history that make it, unlike other states.

Southern Hospitality

Don’t get me wrong, I love Chicago. However, being from the city, I’m not used to the most welcoming people. That’s why I was so surprised that Texans are so nice. You will never feel out of place because everyone in Texas is full of kindness.

I could go on for hours about why Texas amazing but the point is, I love Texas. I’ve lived in many states and this is the first I’ve chosen. Of all the places I could have gone, none of them could ever compare to Texas.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
