Ladies, It's Time To Quit Expecting Your Love To Be Like The Movies

Maybe it was the princess stories we listened to as kids where the prince always enacted some grand gesture to save the princess from demise. Maybe it was those Nicholas Sparks movies that showed love on such a grand scale. Maybe it's because of social media and the over-the-top declares of affection people feel the need to post. Who knows.

Regardless, love isn't always like that, and that's okay.

Our interests and desires impact the way we seek out love. There's no doubt that all the rom-com movies and anniversary posts on Instagram make us see these depictions of romance and yearn for it. Deep down, every girl fantasizes about being swept off her feet and drowned in words of love and affirmation.

But it's time to quit being over-the-top with it. We have to stop thinking that every guy we date is going to be a crazy romantic who sends you an eight paragraph text for you to wake up to. Get rid of the expectations that your boyfriend is indebted to you, someone who, even if they don't have the financial means, is expected to spoil you or even always pay for dinner.

It's unfair to hold men to this romance standard that doesn't always suit their personality. It's time that we learn how they love, and appreciate it that way. There are millions of ways to demonstrate and express love, and it's the little ways that mean the most. Learn each other's love languages and appreciate every ounce that they put forth, just as they should for you.

I'm sorry to every former boyfriend who I've held to those weird pop culture standards of love.

Everyone deserves someone who understands how they love, no matter what way they express it best. Love isn't always a grand gesture or fountain of verbal display. Love is a connection. It deserves to be appreciated in any and every way that it comes. Take note.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
