My Love/Hate Relationship With Travel

My Love/Hate Relationship With Travel

Wanderlust is big topic amongst hipsters and parents alike. Traveling the world to see things you’ve read about just fuels the romantic notion of travel. Books, TV, and celebrities leave us with pictures of amazing places featuring views beyond belief. One would imagine that traveling the world would be the best thing. I love traveling... but I also hate it. And here’s why.

One word… or rather acronym… TSA. The TSA agents are there to keep passengers safe, which is great. I’m glad we have the agents. That does not mean that I enjoy them every flight. As security measures tighten, TSA has gotten tighter. Don’t get me wrong - I love that the agents are there to protect us from danger, but that doesn’t mean that the agents aren’t annoying.

I hate the lines. Oh my goodness. And the traffic. I’m not a very patient person. I like to get where I am going, and having to wait hours on end in an airport does not sound like fun. Sitting still in traffic is no fun either. There’s nothing to do while you’re sitting in traffic trying to get through a mass amount of cars. I’m working on the patience thing.

Traveling isn’t all bad. There are some things I love about it. I love getting to experience new places once the plane lands or the traffic speeds up. I try to get immersed in the cultures wherever I may be. The local restaurants and shops are always a must. It doesn't matter if I'm moving or just visiting, I always try to get to all the local hot spots.

Traveling can be great if you're up for the challenge. Going to a brand new place can be an obstacle, but I am always up for that challenge. Moving around often has helped me learn how to navigate new places, and it's one of my favorite things to do when I'm in a new place. Driving around to see what a new place is hiding, and getting to discover new things is the best. Aimless driving while you're at your destination is a must.

Traveling broadens perspectives and creates a sense of freedom. The process of getting to your final destination may not be the best part of the trip, and it is certainly not my favorite part. But once I'm there the experience, the people, and the challenge are the best things. Traveling can build character and new relationships that can last a lifetime. If you let it, travel can be eye-opening. Seeing different people and different cultures creates a new perspective that you may not have had otherwise. So take the jump. Go to that place that you've always read about and constantly stare at pictures of. Just go. And embrace everything you love and hate about traveling.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
