Dear my first love,

You know who you are, and know you are the first person that I ever loved. I am beyond thankful for being able to love you and to be loved by you. Sometimes it hurts that we did not last but then I remember that there is someone else who is designed specifically for us. Loving you and being loved by you taught me so much, it was such a special gift.

When most couples break up they never speak to each other again, but for us breaking up drew us closer. Before we ever started dating or I even thought that I liked you, you were my best friend. Even when we were dating you were still my best friend. That day we broke up you continued to be my best friend and as of today you still continue to be one of my best friends.

You are my person when I need to escape everything going on in my life and vent; you are who I run too. We do not find it weird when we hang out because loving each other has made us closer, better friends. I am so thankful that my first love was you because you taught me that being in a relationship with someone is great, but being their best friend first makes the relationship even better.

You truly set the bar high for my future relationships. You showed me how a godly man is supposed to pursue a woman. Within our relationship and continuing through our friendship, you treated me like a queen, you served me.

You taught me to be myself. I believe the reason that we continue to be great friends is because we know who each other truly are. Still, to this day I can complete your sentences and you know everything that is about to come out of my mouth. Not once did you judge me or criticize me for being my crazy self. Our relationship taught me that I should never change my individuality or hold back my personality to impress someone, because you can never be truly satisfied unless you are being yourself.

My first love, I will forever love you. I will always be grateful for the time I got to experience by your side. I am even more grateful for our friendship. Our relationship taught me so much. You taught me to never settle for less than what I deserve and you showed me the qualities I need to look for in a man. Most importantly, you taught me how and why to love and showed me, relentless love.
