Every girl has been dumped, heartbroken, cheated on and left standing alone. You are left with the feeling of self-doubt, and emptiness. You start believing that you aren’t pretty enough if you don’t have a man to call your boyfriend, but let me be the first to tell you that is the farthest idea from the truth. Satisfaction within yourself shouldn’t be measured on how many dates you go on. Being loved is so much more than just that.
Too many of us say, “I’m not capable of being loved,” and it has taken me a long time to realize how untrue that is and to be honest, I’m still learning to believe that. Relationships aren’t the key to being happy, and although I know how wonderful romance is, it is not the only kind of love that exists. Too often we forget about our friends and family. I forget how much my friends adore me, and the love my parents have for me. Why can’t that be included in the definition of love?
Being in a relationship can be wonderful, but you can’t expect to be loved by anyone else until you thoroughly love yourself. Maybe it isn’t your time, I truly believe God has some kind of plan for you and one day when you least expect it, love will fall right at your feet. But until then, fall in love with yourself. Everyone always says, “I want to find my better half,” but I disagree with that. I want to find my other whole. Sometimes we get asked, “Why aren’t you in a relationship?” and lately I have realized that I’m not in the position to be dating anyone. I am not going to sit here and preach to you about how you should love yourself, because although I believe that you should adore yourself, it is easier said than done.
I along with many have a daily battle of feeling confident with myself, but I know when I go to sleep at night that with time things will get easier. As a college student still learning my place in the world it gets hard to take time to figure out who you are. You could hear everyday from your friends that you are beautiful, but until you believe it yourself that reality just wont seem realistic to you. Find the things you love to do, what are your passions, and hobbies. Go out and search for the qualities of life that make you smile internally. There is nothing more beautiful than a confident smile, and everyone has that within them.
I urge you to take this next part very seriously. A dear friend once told me this “Be confident in yourself and realize that any guy who doesn’t value you, is not the guy you want to be with.” Everyone is worthy of love and I would put money down that love is surrounding you right now. It might not be the kind of love you are searching for, but that will come with time.
Take this time to fall in love with your own beautiful self. Take this time to realize the beauty that lies within you and find the confidence that is dying to come out. Don’t settle for anyone because you aren’t worth settling for. Love isn’t defined by romance. It is defined by the people that are surrounding you. You are worth it and one day some lucky person will be able to be apart of your enduring life.
