If you’re like me, you have a deep and loving relationship with any and all forms of coffee. Every morning when I get up, I go directly for my Keurig and immediately begin brewing the only thing that can get me out of bed. This routine goes without fail, because without that one cup of coffee, my day goes awry. Without it, I can’t seem to wake up or pay attention to anything that might require my brain for the day.
Many people deem my love for coffee as just another caffeine addiction, but I like to think of it as more than that. Not only is my daily cup of coffee my morning companion, but it tastes delicious and comes hot, cold, frosted and just about any other way you might want it. Not to mention that it complements any and all breakfast foods, as well as most pastries.
I mean just think about it — we have the always lovely traditional hot cup of coffee with cream and sugar. But there are also heaven-sent items, such as the Iced Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks, the new frosted coffee from Chick-fil-A and an iced coffee from Dunkin' Donuts with flavor shots mixed in. And lest we forget about coffee-flavored ice cream and coffee cake because those are arguably two of the best desserts that exist. Also, give me a better drink than coffee to have a donut with. Couldn’t come up with anything? That’s because there isn’t one.
Aside from its scrumptious taste, coffee is an energy booster like no other. I can go from hateful dragon lady who can’t be bothered, to polite and talkative me in a matter of four sips. I even have a shirt that says, “Okay, but first coffee.” And when I wear it, I mean business, because who I am before I’ve had my coffee is someone you don’t want to meet.
But, aside from my deep and passionate love for its taste and energy-boosting abilities, it can be beneficial to consume coffee for health reasons. Well, it may not be healthy with the amount of sugar that I tend to drink it with, but there are several health benefits for some of you coffee drinkers out there. According to authoritynutrition.com, coffee can lower your risk of type II diabetes, is good for your liver and can help burn fat. So for anyone out there who says that coffee is bad for you, here’s proof that it’s not.
It may seem odd that I have such a deep, emotional connection with a simple beverage, but if you think that, then you have probably never experienced all of the benefits that come with being a coffee drinker. Not only is the taste delicious, but it can wake you up in the morning and make you feel like a human being with an actual functioning mind. And it always complements a good breakfast.
As my fellow coffee lover Lorelai Gilmore would say, “I stop drinking the coffee, I stop doing the standing and walking and the words putting into sentence doing."
