Drop the weight of fake friends!

The first and most effective way to lose weight in college is by dropping any fake friends and unnecessary drama that may come your way. Don't be deceived - Both may seem like great sources of entertainment until the next episode of Jersey Shore aires, but in the long run, these extra pounds of stress will weigh you down like nothing else.

While we'd all like to believe that the people we devote our friendships to would always be there for us in return, this isn't always realistic. Idealism and optimism are two very similar emotions which can lead to very different outcomes. By stretching yourself thin trying to maintain relationships that need to go, you'll only bring more negativity into your life than those fake friends do.

That girl you meet the first day of class, or even your dorm roommate, may become the last person you want to associate yourself with by the time the second semester comes around. Don't try to keep up with people who have no interest in you. Being your own best friend is more important than entertaining the people who will ditch you at the end of the day.

While high school pals and best friends can often last forever, sometimes the past should remain untouched. College is a period of progression, and tying yourself to the people who bring you back to old times can keep you from experiencing this incredible growth. On top of that, you may feel a moral responsibility to stick with them through "thick and thin" when this can often be unrealistic and unhealthy.

I also learned to lose pounds by lifting the weight of a perfect GPA off my shoulders! For anyone who is used to "weighted GPAs" or extra credit, get ready. While a generous professor may offer extra credit opportunities here and there, this does not change the strict 4.0 scale which colleges will use to calculate your grade point average. Whether you had straight As or barely passed classes in high school, college is hard. I mean, it's really hard. You won't receive the same grades that got you into the school you were accepted to.

Once you are able to let go of the pressure to keep up with grades your past-self earned, you will feel lighter instantly! (Of course, keep in mind the minimum GPA required for the college you plan to enter and work towards the best you can.)

So, forget the "Freshman 15". Not only is it easy to lose the physical weight of all the negative people in your life but also to shed the weight off your shoulders as grades continue to roll in through the semester.

Trust the process and realize that a happier you will lead to a healthier you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
