Looking Beyond World Standards

In this life you need to know your self worth and not the labels others put on you.

You may not be the girl all the guys swarm around, you may not be the girl who has thousands of followers and gets thousands of likes, you may not be the girl who has tons of friends, and you may not be the popular girl.

First let me tell you that you don't need boys telling you you're pretty to actually be pretty. Because you are already gorgeous. I also say boys instead of men because a boy will only see you for how you look, they won't listen and look deeper into who you really are. But a man will actually see your beauty and get to know you. Though I compare these two, you don't need either to achieve what you want or telling you you're beautiful. If you don't see your worth first, you won't believe them anyway when they tell you.

Second, followers and likes. What do they all mean? That's right, NOTHING! A number does not define you. What defines you is how many of those people you actually know and how you treat each other. It's easy to hide behind a screen and feel you have tons of friends, but when you're in reality do you feel you can call those people up to hang out or help you when you're in need or do you just feel completely alone? And I'm not saying this to put you down, but I say this because I'll be the first to say yes, I'm guilty of scrolling through Instagram and seeing girls and wishing I could look like them but then I remind myself that I'm not piling makeup on to look unrecognizable, I'm not starving myself to fit someones expectation of skinny (I like Oreo's too much), and outside of that virtual world I have close friends I could call on for anything. In other words, don't worry about how many followers you have or how many likes you get because it's about quality not quantity.

Third, popularity. This is one thing I hate most! Not only something I hate but one thing that filled the four walls of high school. It's one thing I didn't understand, still don't, and probably never will. A bunch of fake people don't need to be recognized for pretty much nothing, we put those who fit a world standard of beauty and coolness higher than those who sacrifice their time and most importantly their lives for others. Don't be known and remembered for something that's damaging to another person but instead be known and remembered as a person of honor, integrity, love, and kindness.

While you may not be the girl with all the guys, or the girl with the most followers or likes, or the most popular, you're so much more than all of this. You're a beautiful human, who has the power to make a difference beyond the internet and cliche groups. Go live life without constantly worrying if you look as good as the other girls, or if what you're doing is "cool" because you don't need to impress others but you do need to be happy!

I chose the flower as my cover photo because we can all pass through the "dirt and weeds" of life and have the ability to blossom. We just have to make it through the rough parts first and at the end will be a beautiful creation.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
