The holidays are made of excitement, contentment and togetherness with finals coming around the corner all students can think about are the holidays. But holidays are very different if you date an individual who lives out of state or in a different country. There are many items that have to be considered when going into long-distance relationships or LDRs. Questions like “When will I see them again?” “Should I go to their home for the holiday?” “Should they come to my house?” are all questions anyone in LDRs have to ask themselves before the holiday season gets into full swing.
I have been in a long-distance relationship for two years now and each year the holidays get harder and harder to figure out who is going to go where and whose house is going to have a guest for the holidays. But each year our long distance relationship becomes stronger. Because we do not get to see one another every day, we form a certain trust that a lot of relationships do not have. This year is going to be a little different due to the fact that I will be going to my partner's house after Christmas to spend our own Christmas with my partner. Last year I did go to his house for Thanksgiving, but there is an expectation that the holidays have to be just as good with their family as they are with your own family, which is not at all true.
Holidays in long distance relationships can be hard being away from family or being with your partners family and not knowing how they will react to you, but in the end all that matters is that you are happy being wherever you are and your partner feels the same way.
