Oh, beer. How your bubbly goodness warms my heart and soul — either out of love or from being a little tipsy. Regardless, there aren’t too many things that are better than relaxing and sipping on a delicious, chilled beer. What’s wonderful is the microbreweries that continue to sprout up around the area producing delicious, quality beer. This article will display a nice list of local breweries to check out in the area if you have a love for pleasing beer that makes you all bubbly.
Fair warning, if you prefer shotgunning Natty Light or throwing down with your friends on $2 PBR pitchers at the local bar, then this list might not be for you. In my book, it’s all about quality over quantity, not quantity over quality. I’d rather not drink at all rather than sip on a beer that is more miserable than appealing.
1. Dry County Brewing Company
Dry County Brewing Company originated in Kennesaw, Georgia just this past year. Their IPA, Dry County, has a nice, hoppy and distinguishable flavor to it; it is definitely refreshing. An acquired taste, yet absolutely delectable once you have the pallet to enjoy an IPA. They also have a seasonal ale available named Namesake. Though the brewery is not too well-known yet, it has made its dispute in quite a few different bars in the area. If you’re interested in trying out Dry County’s beers, check out their website to see where their beers are being sold. I definitely recommend it. Also, Dry County Brewing Company finally has a new home off of Lockhart Drive in Kennesaw! Stay tuned for touring and tasting updates! I'm excited to see what beers the brewers come out next. I volunteer as tribute—to taste testing.
2. Reformation Brewery
Reformation Brewery is located in Woodstock, Georgia off Arnold Mill. Reformation has been around since 2013, but the beers they have created has made beer advocates believe the beer has been around much longer. The beer styles range from IPAs to stouts to porters and everything in between with ABVs ranging from 5.50% to 9.70%. The brewers also have a series of beers only available in their “Keeping Room” with distinctive ingredients including rosemary and apple. Have a cold one on me.
3. Monday Night Brewing
Why have a beer only on the weekends? With the slogan, “Weekends are overrated,” it’s a little hard to forget about the much-hated Mondays. Which are so much better with this beer. The scotch ale they brew has a smoky, chocolate malt taste to it. There’s quite a powerful taste to it without the slap in the face. As Monday Night said themselves, “Drafty Kilt is a dark, malty bombshell of a beer.” Notable mentions include their Eye Patch Ale IPA and Fu Manbrew.
4. Red Brick Brewing Company
Red Brick Brewing Company was created in 1993 in Atlanta by a former Guinness executive. If that itself doesn't lure you into their beer voodoo wizardry, then maybe their delicious beers will. Their beers range from double IPAs to barleywine ales to even chai milk stouts. Probably their most famous beer is the Laughing Skull amber ale which is well-known in the metro Atlanta area, especially when enjoying it with a delicious burger from the Vortex. The Laughing Skull has a nice, refreshing earthy taste with a slightly bitter finish.
5. Terrapin Beer Company
Terrapin is quite popular in all of Georgia. It was originated in 2002 by a University of Georgia alumni and an American Brewers Guild graduate in Athens, Georgia--the home of sweet college football life which always follows well with a nice, crisp beer. The iconic green turtle displayed on each bottle or can of beer displays a nice illustration of what is in store, which is a dive into delicious beer haven, of course. The delicious beers the brewery makes ranges from chocolate porters to golden ales. But their collection of beers range from over 70 beers, some seasonal and others retired. the most popular of the Terrapin beers is more than likely the Hopsecutioner IPA brewed with six different types of hops having the drinkers go on a world wind of flavor. The earthy tone is a wonderful taste for a night out on the town or at home. Or even at 5 o'clock. I'm not judging.
6. SweetWater Brewing Company
SweetWater is more than likely the most well-known local and craft brewery in all of Georgia. Their psychedelic label displays a well-detailed picture of what experience the drinker will ride on—a punch to the lips of different flavors dancing in your mouth. With a slogan like "Don't float the mainstream," you'll be damned not to float the river less traveled (that's a warning to all of you Bud Light drinkers). Their beers range from pale ales to brown ales to pilsners. The most famous of the SweetWater beers is SweetWater 420, the pale ale. 420 has won an array of awards and has a nice, subtle, hoppy taste to it without the heavy kick that an IPA has. But don't worry, if you're adamant about IPAs then SweetWater meets your needs with their IPA, SweetWater IPA, their double IPA, Hop Hash, and their seasonal IPAs. Check out their seasonal brews, too, as their Happy Ending imperial stout is on the top of my list of best beers.7. Burnt Hickory Brewery
8. Red Hare Brewing Company
Red Hare Brewing Company has won my heart. The company originated in Marietta and started selling in 2011. The brewery is relatively new but has especially earned its well-deserved reputation as it is now sold in a few different states. Their beers range from pale ales to lagers to IPAs. Their most well-known brew is the Long Day Lager. The bohemian style lager has a citrusy, notably malty taste to it. Quite crisp, yet hits the spot. Keep an eye out for their seasonal beers which contains a delicious stout, Sticky Stout, and an awesome Oktoberfest style beer, Hasenpfeffer Oktoberfest.
9. Creature Comforts Brewing Company
Creature Comforts originated in Athens, Georgia and displays the brand idea of being creative, which is an excellent perspective for brewers and individuals passionate about beers. Their creative beers have distinguishable and interesting tastes that are unlike many other typical beers circulating around. Their year-round beers include an IPA and an Amber Ale. The Amber Ale, Reclaimed Rye, is a flavorful beer with a touch of spice and vanilla. It's a different taste from different Amber Ales but does so well. If you get the chance to visit the brewery, try out the Milk Porter with toasted coconut, coffee, cocoa nibs and vanilla beans. It looks nothing less than creative and heaven. Are there any beers up here that top the list or that you want to try? Or is there one I missed?
