One Saturday morning, I wake up. I begin to go through the normal routine of checking social media, stretching and slowly crawling out of my bed. It’s just another normal day to me, but to other people, it’s tragic. It’s scary and there's hatred. I flip on the television, and immediately, my face is glued to the screen watching protest after protest, hearing about shooting after shooting and seeing hundreds of police putting their lives on the line every single day. I scroll through Facebook to see every kind of opinion, whether I agree with it or not. I see nothing but negativity. I see so much hate, and I see so much separation in the world that it’s scary.
When I see the television, I experience two different kinds of emotions. One, I experience fear to no end because it could easily be me or you. Two, I have a sense of easiness because my end is not here, but yet in heaven with the Lord Jesus. I believe sometimes we underestimate the fact that God can handle things without our help. We try to handle the situation ourselves, when, in reality, we should have never tried to take care of it in the first place. He knows what's happening. We don't need to inform him of that. But there is one word that our country needs. It's prayer. We need prayer for those officers. We need prayer for our president. We need prayer for the families who have lost loved ones, and believe it or not, we need prayer for the people who are committing the crimes. At this point, it's the most powerful tool.
I know they say living in a state of fear will hurt you more than it will help you, and you can’t allow people to stop you from living your everyday life. But goodness, how can we go out when a shooting is happening every time we turn our head? How can we leave our house if there are protests going on around us? How are we supposed to act like everything is OK when our world seems to be shattering into a million pieces? How are we supposed to respond to all of this? Here's your answer — Jesus. He's the only one that we can trust, and more than anything, we need to hold tight to his promise that He will take care of us. And although we would love to hate the people that commit these crimes, Jesus loves them the same. They are his children, and just like He did for us, He did for them.
We worry ourselves sick to the point when someone says anything that has to do with violence, politics or anything about our country, automatically, nothing but negative things come out of our mouth. Yes, our country is not where we thought it would be this time 10 years ago, and yes, it may be in worse shape 10 years from now, but our country needs the Lord like never before. Instead of griping and complaining, let’s pray for this land that we call our home.
I know all of this is a lot easier said than done. I know it hurts to see things like this every time you turn on a television. I know you're scared, but so does Jesus, and that's why you love Him and trust His word throughout every situation.
