This year I moved into an apartment with my two best friends. They are both beautiful and amazing women who I am so lucky to have in my life.
One of them has ADHD. She is possibly the funniest, definitely one of the most ballsy people I know, but she does have a tendency to let her ADHD show. These are some of things I have realized:
1. You have to remind them about everything at least 10 times. Possibly more, varies per user.
2. You can leave them alone for hours and they will entertain themselves. One time I found her planning out my presidential campaign. I just didn't ask questions.
3. They forget essentials. You can never ask them to call your phone for you if you lose it because they've been looking for theirs for the last 20 minutes. Also, what are keys? They use the "hope someone's home" method.
4. There will always be music on. Mine likes Whitney Houston and EDM remixes of popular songs. Eight in the morning? No problem. A beautiful rendition of "I Will Always Love You" sung in the key of "Please stop, it is too early" and "Dear Lord" will wake you right up.
5. You will never not laugh. They will provide for you jokes that you could have never come up with, and make you laugh the kind of laughter that comes from deep in your belly and you can't control.
6. They seriously lose everything. As I am writing this article, she has come up to me twice to help her look for something.
7. UPDATE: She found the items. Both were exactly where she left them.
8. You'll be unconditionally loved. Even when they are scatter brained and can't find anything, they will drop it all to make sure you're OK. No matter what.
9. "Judging" never happens. They have done more embarrassing things then they can count in front of you, so when you're caught dancing in the living room, they join in. When you sing to them off key, they sing right back.
10. You found a best friend for life. Whether it's the fact that you can count on them for none of the essentials but all of the life essentials, or that they can always make you smile, even though it's usually because they have just tripped over the rug that has been there for months, they are someone who sees you at your worst and contributes to your best.
I wouldn't trade my ADHD roommate for the world.
