A life of moderation.
I have learned that everything in life can be taken with the same approach. Moderation. Anything can get out of hand if done too much, and things can get neglected if not done enough. The list goes on and on of things that are good things that just need to be in moderation. Finding the healthy balance of every situation and thing in life. Of course, it is very hard to do this and some days maybe impossible, but I think it a good goal to strive for.
The only thing I believe we can never have too much of is time with God. Spending time with God is something that I can always add to my day and never need in moderation only need to be adding more of.
A life of moderation is a healthy life.
Here are some examples of things we need to balance:
Work.
Work is a good thing and as much as we complain about it is something that we often do way too much of. Work can begin to consume our lives and take time from other things in life. I know that I struggle to relax because of the way our society is wired. But also on the flip side work is good and giving the excuse that we deserve a break too often can be unhealthy as well.
Food.
I believe there is no such thing as bad or good food. All food is the gift that we are blessed to have. We can eat only “healthy” things and that can be bad for our body. We can also do the opposite of eating only “ junk” which is bad for our bodies. It’s all about moderation and knowing how to balance what goes in and out of our bodies.
Exercise.
Some people may struggle with too much exercise and not listen to their body, while others need to exercise a bit more. Part of taking care of your body is resting as well as being active. Being a college athlete you realize how much time you spend working on perfecting your sport. Hours of hard work are poured into your sport. It is important to be careful and remember that rest is also a part of that training.
Friends.
Hanging with friends is again a good thing but if it is taking time away from family and other things that need to be done it can be detrimental. Balancing is key.
Social Media.
Social media can be such a time killer. So often I end up wasting way too much time on social media when I could have been doing a lot better things. But social media is not a bad thing. It is a great tool to reach out to others and stay connected with the world around us. Setting limits and finding the right amount of time spent on social media is crucial.
I hope this reminds us all that everything in life is about moderation. Moderation is what leads to a healthy life.
