Live 2 Serve is a Christian organization that aids those living in poverty in the Baton Rouge area. Volunteers consist mainly of college students. I know several people who are involved with this wonderful organization and I can truly say Live 2 Serve is one of the main factors in Baton Rouge so great. The passion, commitment and love each staff member and volunteer puts into this organization is incredible.
With the Christmas holiday coming up, Live 2 Serve is giving LSU students the perfect opportunity to give back. Every Christmas, Live 2 Serve hosts a Christmas Giveaway. Baton Rouge has one of the highest poverty rates in the United States. Children don’t get the same Christmas experience as most of us are blessed to have. This is where the Christmas Giveaway comes into play. Live 2 Serve is inviting LSU students to help with raising toys for underprivileged children.
LSU Greek life has already begun collecting toys for the giveaway. The rest of campus can start donating during dead week. Jacob Allen Nichols, the founder of Live 2 Serve, had the idea of looking at the toy drive as a “study break” for finals. Let’s be real, we are always looking for reasons to procrastinate studying. So instead of watching Netflix or taking a nap, why not do something meaningful? Take a quick thirty-minute break and go pick out a toy to donate. Besides it will make you feel less guilty about not studying when you’re actually doing something that matters.
The holidays are a time for giving. You’ve never selflessly given a present to someone and thought “I am the scum of the Earth.” No, you felt some sense of joy and happiness from making someone else’s day a little bit better. School is stressful. Jobs are stressful. The line to get into an LSU football game is stressful. Checking to see if you’re iPhone is cracked after you dropped it is stressful. Using the self-checkout at Walmart is stressful. Wait, what was I saying again? Oh yeah, giving back is the best stress reliever, so why not participate in this awesome event? Also, Leonard Fournette personally told me everyone should participate. Okay no he didn’t but I’m sure if I asked he would.
