Hacks are flying at us from every angle online, promising us with better ways to live. These tips can help us change up our routines and, potentially, make our days operate more smoothly. Indulge me as I, too, tell you all about five small things that have made my life significantly easier.
1. Stack your clothes vertically.
Seriously, it saves so much room and you can see everything much better! That's okay, beloved band shirt always left at the bottom of the drawer, you'll never be forgotten again.
2. If you have a period, consider switching to a menstrual cup.
I know, I was hesitant, too. "Isn't it painful and a little gross," I wondered to myself. After worrying about dealing with my flow during travel, I made the plunge and got a cup. Keep in mind that I rarely even wear tampons, so this was a big change for me. But, after a bit of time getting used to it, I can say that I never plan to go back! There is such freedom in knowing that I won't be contributing any more pads or tampons to landfills and that I won't have to waste room in my travel backpack with a bulky package of pads. There are even some really great organizations, like this one, in which part of your purchase of hygiene items goes to help support underprivileged girls obtain necessary health supplies. Bleed on, friends, and know that you're making a difference!
3. Do something difficult each day.
Say "I'm sorry" or try a new language. Learn to play a new game. Apply for that scholarship or job, even if you're scared of being rejected. Try something new. Congratulate yourself when you don't succeed, and be gentle to yourself when you fail. We can never grow unless we take risks, so work to take the time to do something outside of your comfort zone each and every day. Your future self will thank you.
4. Save your orange peels to make tea.
Wash and sprinkle the orange or lemon peels with sugar and cinnamon, then set out the peels in a dry, warm place. In a couple of days, your peels will be firm and can be popped into an infuser. It's great if you want to try something new or if you're a fan of gentle, fruity teas. Feel free to experiment with adding mint leaves, crushed peppermint or other herbs!
