Life as a female sports fan is hard, yet so rewarding.

My Gender Doesn't Determine Whether Or Not I Like Sports

I am a girl, and I happen to be a fan of many sports.

If I had a dime for every time a man questioned my ability as a fan, I could afford a professional sports team.

Since when did my gender determine if I could understand sports or not? Whenever a woman says she likes a sport, a guy will automatically ask who played on the team in 1972.

What? You do not have to know every person that ever played on that team to be a fan now.

As long as I know the current players, why does it matter?

People think just because I show enthusiasm, that means I am faking it.

I do not watch for the attractive players. That's just a bonus. Also, people assume I am just hopping on the bandwagon whenever I wear a jersey from my favorite team that happens to be popular. There are so many girls out there pretending to like sports to attract the attention of men, and this is exactly why people do not believe me when I say I am a fan.

I watch because I love the game not to get a date. Honestly, no guy would want to date me once they heard my trucker mouth whilst watching a game. I have created so many new swear words in the heat of the game.

My favorite sport is football. Being from Massachusetts, my favorite team is the Patriots, obviously. My father always tells me how passionate I become once the whistle blows. I become a completely different person when a game is on. Do not distract or talk to me while a game is on or I will absolutely yell at you.

Also, just because my favorite is incredible that does not mean I am new to the sport. My mother got me a Julian Edelman jersey for Christmas and its the best present I have ever gotten.

Just because he is out for the whole season does not mean I am going to stop watching. I love the sport regardless of who is playing. All in all, I absolutely love the sport and nothing anyone can say will change that.

I grew up with football games on my television. My father, brother, great-grandfather, and many other family members played football. I have always been surrounded by the sport. If that is not enough evidence of my love for football, then I don't really care. Your opinion is never going to stop me from watching.
