Hey, How Are You?

A Letter To The Future Me

Dear future me,

Hey there! Long time no see, how long has it been? Maybe 10 minutes after I just saw you in a mirror in the hallway?

I'm currently writing five papers, and studying for exams as I write this letter to you. I needed a quick break from all this homework. But, hopefully, it pays off in the end.. You are a teacher, right?

I hope you accomplished everything I've dreamed of.

I hope you have a big family if you and your husband can financially support one. I hope you two had our dream wedding, a Disney princess wedding dress, bridesmaids wearing beautiful gray dresses, deep red flower centerpieces, and so on. How was the honeymoon? Two days in Disney World, then three days in Bora Bora, I hope it was everything I dreamed of.

Are you still drowning in student loans? Ideally, I hope you aren't, I hope you went through with the loan forgiveness program by working in a low-income community for at least five years. If you did, I can bet a million dollars that you stuck around for more than five years, trying to help the community and help your students.

Have you moved out of state yet, or did you change your mind? For the past year, I've had the urge to move out of New Jersey and live somewhere random like Ohio once I do my five years of loan forgiveness. It's so much cheaper to live in Ohio than in New Jersey. My current plan right now is to live somewhere in expensive in New Jersey, or live at home, and save as much money as I possibly can for five years, then pick up and leave the state. I guess I need to learn how to pump my own gas.

You're still eating healthy right? I'm coming up to the one-year mark where I finally changed my diet for the better and I would hate to find out you went back to your old ways. Take care of your body, and your families bodies!! Natural products only! No processed foods, although the occasional oreo won't kill you, thin mint Oreos, not the regular ones let's be real here.

Who did you end up marrying? I'm surprised the future me was able to find someone who can put up with all my sass and love me, for me. I hope he's kind to you, and I hope he loves music as much as you do and makes it a part of your kids lives as well. Have you taken the kids to their first concert yet? If not, better get right on that! Start them young, let them grow a love for music like I did.

I apologize for all my questions, you should know I'm curious and that won't ever change. I'll talk to you soon, go eat dinner with the family and give them all a hug and kiss for me.

Love,

Me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
