Dear Younger Siblings,
Being the oldest kid in the house is not as fun as you would think. I didn’t have examples to look up to when it came to college applications or job hunting, and being the first to move out of the house is hard. One thing that I want to do for both of you is to give you someone to look up to. I want you to be able to ask me questions about anything and not be scared about it. I want to make sure you guys have an easier time with growing up knowing someone did it before you. Well, that is what this letter is for. It is a way to help you out even when I’m not there.
Kendall, I know that you have been through a lot this year, and I feel terrible for not being there for you more. You always know that you can count on me to help you with any dating trouble, and I can help you with chemistry if you need it. You’re almost done with high school and it is only going to get harder from there. After this year, you start the hunt for colleges. Deciding which schools have your major, sport opportunities, and which ones are most likely to give you a scholarship is difficult. You don’t have to decide right away. Take your time, visit every place, and choose wisely. You have time, don’t waste it!
CJ, my baby brother, I adore you! You have grown so much in the time that I have been gone and I am so proud of you. You’re taller than me already! I still remember when you were in kindergarten, running around and wanting to always be with me. Knowing that you’re a teenager now is scary. You are almost in high school, and I hope that you succeed the best that you can. The advice I have for you is: don’t give up on anything and always give 100%. I know you haven’t had much motivation for school lately, but you are a smart kid and I believe in you. Please give your all and I hope you find something that you are passionate about. Passion is the #1 motivator (besides money, of course!)
Both of you are growing up so fast and I want you both to always remember to have fun and your dreams can come true if you really want them too. Always be yourselves and others will appreciate that about you. Last but not least, remember that Mom and Dad love you and only do what they think is best for you. Even if that means taking away your phones and keeping you from going to that birthday party the school has been talking about for weeks. Don’t argue and deal with the punishment respectfully. It’ll help you in the long run!
Love you both!
Your Big Sister
