A Letter To The Lost

Dear the one feeling lost,

Hey you, I see you trying to find yourself over there. You are doing a good job hiding your crazy and I see how badly you want to find answers. You are looking in the entirely wrong places, sweetheart. You have not lost your mind and you are not going to fall apart.

You are important. Your life is the monumental to numerous people. You are much more loved than you realize you are. Maybe it is not in the form of verbal acknowledgement or even physical, but you are important by someone.

You are beyond bright. Whether that is in the classroom or in living day to day you are doing just fine. You are positive. Whether you are just faking those smiles and laughs, people are buying it, so keep it up. You can fake it until you make it and realizing that is half the battle. But, you’re ahead of the game. You are pretending that you have it all together for the sake of others, and that is beyond extraordinary.

Your smiles matter and they are contagious. Your world might be a little shaken, but you are going to find yourself. I know your life has changed from everything you know, but you’re going to be OK. You are going to find another place here. You are going to do great things in a different area of anything you have ever done.

You have to believe in yourself. Especially on the days you feel as though you’re standing alone stranded begging for a direction to jump to. You are going to fall upon that place, but you have to have the positive mindset. Tell yourself that you are capable and remind yourself daily. When your voice just is not being heard, change your approach and hope for a better outcome.

To the one that is feeling lost in this vastly changing world, you are not alone. Break down, have your outburst, have your cry, have your panic tantrum. But trust that you will rise up from whatever slump you are buried inside. You will climb out of it. It might not be easy. But, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. No road ever comes to an end, there’s four-wheel drive for a reason. Make your own path and drive like hell down it. You’ll get a flat tire, it’ll suck for a second, but you’ll have to keep driving.

Life is a blessing, and maybe you’re lost because you’ve forgotten how blessed and how privileged you are. So wake up from your meltdown, smell your beautiful garden of roses, and move forward. Maybe your flowers are ruined, but you can always plant more, so do it--blossom new pedals. Find a new hobby, drive a different direction, and be happy. I know you think you’re lost right now, but you aren’t; you are so loved, so bright, and oh so completely capable of absolutely everything and anything. I know you feel lost, but you are loved and you do matter. And always remember that you are #blessed.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
