Long Distance Relationship Skeptics, You've Got It Wrong

Yes, it is a real relationship. Yes, it is worth it.

Long Distance Relationship Skeptics, You've Got It Wrong

There are so many people who question long distance relationships and are really just skeptical of the whole thing. They may believe that they aren't real relationships or they may think that they aren't even worth the trouble. Some may have been in a past long distance relationship that didn't work out for them and some may just have this opinion based on movies or other relationships that they've seen.

I'm here to tell you that it can work and that it can be amazing.

Are there hard times? Of course. Is it the best situation to be in? Probably not. Is it worth it? Definitely.

Let's first get the negatives out of the way. They obviously aren't there every day, or sometimes even every month. You can't just go to their house and see them when you want to. If you want to talk to or see them, it has to be over the phone, through FaceTime or Skype. When you get in an argument they can't physically be there to cheer you up. When you miss them, they're still far away. They may not make it to every holiday or special event. They may not make it for your birthday. They may not make it for your family get-together that you would like them to be at with you. Yes, all of these are sad things, things that may make you feel like the relationship wouldn't even be worth it. This is where you're mistaken.

Technology is amazing these days. With technology you can talk to each other whenever you want to. You aren't physically with them, but you can hear them and see them. For people in long distance relationships, that's enough. You learn to appreciate the moments you have with them when they actually are home. While those may be few, it is crucial and you learn to use the time you have just loving them. You learn how to be yourself along with being in a relationship. Because you're not always with them, you find your own things to do and be happy doing. While the present may be hard with the distance, you always have your future to look forward to. It probably won't be a long distance relationship forever, hopefully. Eventually you won't have that wall of distance in the way, and that is sort of a goal that you can strive for, a light at the end of the tunnel. The day that you both can have a home together, without the other having to leave for more than a day or weekend, is the day that you can look forward to to keep your relationship going.

Above all, if you find that one person that makes you happier than you've ever been, the distance IS worth it. It's worth every second spent apart. Because as soon as they're back home, it's like they never even left. You can't even tell that you haven't seen them in months because how happy they make you allows the time apart not to matter. The words "long distance" shouldn't automatically send fear your way. Thinking of the person you're going to be in that relationship with should calm every fear that you have. If you love them, I can promise you it will be worth the distance.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
