Dear Democratic National Convention,
This was my first election as a registered voter who, against her families wishes, registered as a democrat. Although I wasn't yet eligible to vote in the primaries, I was an avid Bernie Sanders supporter. My car donned his bumper sticker, my window wore his "A Future to Believe In" sign, and I attended one of his rallies at a local university. The future seemed bright as he promised lower college tuition, higher minimum wage, and "the whole damn dollar" for women. I screamed and cheered and I wasn't alone. Although I'm not good at estimating large number of people, I can confidently say that there were well over 1,000 people in the small gymnasium. With so many people in support of him all over the country, how could he lose?
But then came primary after primary and Hillary kept winning and winning. While he filled stadiums and inspired millions, Hillary's pole number kept climbing until she won the nomination. Bernie consoled his supporters at the convention and appealed to them to vote her Hillary because the DNC needed to stand united.
And then came the news that the DNC had rigged the primaries to favor Hillary. While you should have been called out and blamed and we should have been owed a fair recount of the votes, you shrugged your shoulders and offered a half-apology.
While, yes, the idea of having a female president, and one so qualified as HRC, the victory against Donald Trump should have out-weighed all of that. Bernie Sanders was defeating Donald Trump in every pole by about 10%.
But while you carried on believing that the voters would unite against the threat of Donald Trump, that proved untrue. Donald Trump won. Yes, Hilary is leading him in 2 million of the popular votes, but he won the electoral college, which apparently matters.
You could look for blame in the polls, blame in the voters for voting third party, blame sexism, you should be blaming yourselves.
You, the DNC, are the reason the Democrats lost.
Sincerely,
A Proud Democrat Who Hates the DNC
