A Letter to Myself In 10 Years.

"The biggest lesson I've learned is: it's okay. It's okay for me to be kind to myself. It's okay to be wrong. It's okay to get mad. It's okay to be flawed. It's okay to be happy. It's okay to move on."

A Letter to Myself In 10 Years.

Dear 29 year old me,

I hope you find everything you need in this letter. I hope that you've become to the person you've been working so hard on becoming for so long. I hope that you're married to your soulmate and every time you look at them, you see the world in their eyes. I hope that you're expecting your first child soon and you couldn't be more excited.

I hope you're reading this remembering the struggles you went through, and that you couldn't be prouder for pushing through. I hope that you are genuinely happy with everything in your life. I hope you're living with no regrets. And I hope that you are accomplishing your dreams.

10 years ago, you thought that you wouldn't make it through that class second semester of freshman year because you're tired. I hope that you finally understand your self worth and that no one is more important than you are. I hope you got rid of every toxic person in your life, and that you have never felt better without them. I hope that you stopped apologizing for the people who hurt you.

I hope that you finally understand that you have made your family proud and you never let them down. I hope you are closer with your big brothers than you ever have been before, and I hope you still call them crying when you have bad days. I hope your friends were in your wedding and they included those embarrassing pictures of you in the wedding slide show. I hope you call your best friends every day and always celebrate wine Wednesday with them. And I know that the girls who helped you through your worst days will be the ones standing next to you for the rest of your life. I hope you got the wedding of your dreams and I hope dad cried while walking you down the aisle. I hope you talk to your mom every day and you always remind her how much you love her no matter what happens.

I hope you beat your depression and you are stronger than ever. I hope you have a bond with your children that they can come to you no matter what happens in life. I hope that you remember what you were going through at their age, and you never get mad at them for making the same mistakes you did.

I hope you teach your daughter her self worth, and that no one should ever make her feel inferior to them. I hope you teach your son to treat the person he loves with respect, and if he doesn't he will regret it for the rest of his life. I hope that you have the family dog, and that dog is your children's best friend. I hope that on cold Sunday mornings, you wake up to the sound of their little feet padding towards you from down the hallway.

I hope you're working at a job that you love waking up for everyday. I hope that you're writing is published somewhere. I hope you kept all your journals to give to your kids when they are struggling to let them know they aren't alone. Even your journals from freshman year of college to give to your kids their freshman year of college.

I hope you traveled the world like you've wanted to since you were in high school. I really hope that you made it to Europe.

I hope that when you wake up in the morning to the person next to you, that you realize that they are everything you could ever ask for. I hope that they treat you like the amazing and beautiful person you are, and I hope that they support you in everything you do. I hope they give you hugs that make you feel safe, kisses that make you feel whole, love that makes you feel like you're 19 again. I also hope you help them when they have bad days, and make sure they know you love them every minute of everyday.

Lastly, I only care that you keep saying yes to possibility, to love and the potential for gorgeous, awesome experiences right under of your nose. I hope that you're happy again. When I say happy, I mean overjoyed to be waking up everyday, loving the air you breathe, and passionately doing everything you love to do. I hope that you can look back on the memories you made and realize that you are so much stronger than you believe. And I hope that you learned how to save yourself, and not that someone else needs to save you ever again.

You have worked so hard for so long. This is truly one of the best decisions you’ve ever made in your entire life. Not only because of what you said no to, but what you said yes to. You said yes to feeling. You said yes to vulnerability. You said yes to not being okay. You said yes to not having all the answers. You said yes to loving yourself. You also said yes to happiness. Thank you, for doing this work.

I am so proud of who you are and what you have accomplished.

Love always,

Me

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
