A Letter To My Younger Sibling

It’s funny when they talk about how much younger siblings look up their older sibling, because I look up to you all the time. I love the way you continue to dream big and always fight for what you believe is true. Don’t me wrong, you could get on my last nerve too, but I think about how blessed I am that God let’s me be your big sister. It keeps me accountable for my actions, because just like I look up to you, I know you look up to me too.

I love when you ask for advice like you expect me to have all the right answers. In case you were wondering, I don’t. But I will continue giving you the best advice I can think of. I might not know what to do all the time, but I love that you feel like you could confide in me.

I will let you down. I have let you down in the past, and I could assure you that I will let you down in the future. What I can promise you is that I will never stop loving or caring for you. I make mistakes because I am not perfect and I do not have my whole life together, despite how much I act like I do. The mistakes I make, I pray you learn from, and the one’s you don’t, I hope I learned from them so I could guide you the right way.

I only want the best for you. I protect you, not because I’m trying to start an argument, but because I genuinely want you to succeed in life. When you start dating, I will be over-protective, because I know what you deserve, even if you don’t think you do.

I am so proud of you, and I know that I don’t tell you that enough. The decisions you make prove to me that you will succeed beyond measures. I pray that you continue to live a God-bearing life, and never give up on those crazy dreams of yours. I will love you always, and always be unbelievably grateful that God blessed me with you as my little sibling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
