Dear Me,

First off, let me start by saying, “Congratulations!” You made it through yet another semester of school and it’s hard to believe that the best years of your life are flying by as fast as they are. As I sit on the couch during winter break, I begin to think of the changes that you can make for the upcoming spring semester. New year, new you right? Actually take this advice this time though, no slacking off.

Next semester, don’t binge watch Netflix instead of studying. Save binge watching for the summer or for the weekends when you find that you have nothing to do. Start using all your energy that you have to watch "Grey's Anatomy" on something more useful such as homework. If you get all your homework done and there’s time, reward yourself with a Netflix session. I promise you that you won’t feel as guilty when you click “next episode.”

Next semester, start going to the gym because we both know that you probably stepped foot in the gym about four times last semester. The summer is going to be here quicker than you think and you’re probably going to hate your bikini body come Memorial Day weekend if you don’t start going to the gym regularly. All those cookies that you ate during winter break are going to start catching up to you. Try to be apart of the #fitfam.

Next semester, try to change your diet. Vow to not eat as many French fries in the cafeteria. Go for the salad instead, you’ll thank yourself in the long run. Also, only eat Ramen noodles when you literally have no other option. Stay away from the cookies and the donuts, even though they’re basically the best two foods on Earth.

Next semester, dress nice every day. Now I’m not expecting you to dress like you’re going to your sorority’s semi every day, but definitely dress to impress. I understand that yoga pants and sweatpants are extremely comfortable, but you just look like a slob when you wear it four times in a week. After all, you have all those cute clothes, why not show them off? Maybe you’ll impress that cute boy that you’ve been crushing on.

Next semester, stop spending so much money. You spend money like it grows on trees. Newsflash, it doesn’t! You don’t really need that cute top that you saw in Francesca’s, even though you swear that you do. You probably have one that looks just like it in your closet already. You also don’t need to go to Dunkin' Donuts three times in a day. The fact that the Dunkin' Donuts employees know your order by heart should be eye-opening that you spend way too much time and money at such a fine establishment. You spent all that money on K-cups for your Keurig, why not use it? Have the mindset that you have zero dollars to spend.

Remember to stay motivated and enjoy the rest of your time while away at college. When you get down on yourself, remember that you’re doing the best that you can and that nobody is perfect. Enjoy the spring semester!

Love Always,

Me

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
