I’ve always wanted to write one of these letters, so I guess now is the time. I just wanted to thank my older sister for everything you have done, and praise her for her being. The endless strength and support and love you’ve provided me with is truly unfathomable. No one compares to you, and no one ever will compare to you. You have been there for me through thick and thin, and the minute I need you, are there in a second.
In our younger years, we used to fight constantly about the silliest thing. Whether it be sharing clothes (which we now do 100 percent willingly), who got to sit in the front of the car with Dad on the way to the city, or even the silliest of things such as what food we had first dibs on at dinner. Although, as we started to grow older, I realized how important you are to me, and how you are essentially my rock. You hold me together when I am almost at my breaking point. You constantly reassure me that everything is going to be okay, and that I am wiser than I truly believe I am.The minute you left for college roughly four years ago, it truly hit me how much you mean to me. As a child, I perceived all the protection and advice you gave me, whether it be to steer clear of mean boys, to watch out who I talk to and how I talk to them, to keep my grades up and to keep pushing through all the challenges that I face, as being irrelevant and somewhat annoying. Now I realize, that you did it not to point out my flaws, but to benefit me and take role as a leader.
It is now November, and I am heading towards being done with my first semester at college, while you are graduating a semester early.Although we are miles and hours apart, I know in my heart, and in my head, that you are right here with me pushing me along to persevere both academically and socially. Thank you so much for the countless hours you have spent texting me, asking me what I am up too, how my workload is going, and going the extra mile to put aside your own work and help me understand mine.
On that note, I am so very proud for all that you have accomplished. My smart, beautiful, sensitive and compassionate sister doesn’t compare to anyone else’s. You are an inspiration to all, spending hours upon hours in the library, while balancing being an active member of your sorority as well as keeping in touch with each and every member of our family and all of your friends. You are my role model, and have been since day one. Although our lives are going in two completely different paths, me wanting to become a teacher, and you pursuing your dreams in becoming a lawyer, I know we will make a great team as best friends and support one another wherever our paths of life take us within the foreseeable future.
I love you so much and thank you for not only being my biological sister, but also my best friend.
Xoxo,
Ally.
