Dear Bestest Best Friend Forever (BBFF),
First of all, Happy Birthday! You're finally 21!
Second of all....How dare you turn 21 when I'm not there to celebrate with you?! Who is going to hold your hair back after I buy you too many drinks (and don't you dare say those other fill-in best friends that you have at school)? I've been your friend longer and I deserve it more than them.
You must postpone your birthday celebrations until I come home because this just ins't fair. I just can't believe this is happening. It's not really your best friends 21st birthday unless you're there to celebrate with them.
Oh, whatever, I guess I will have to deal with it...because I love you. I'll just send my love from halfway across the country. I know you'll be there when I get back and we can celebrate then (even though it's just not the same).
This is hard because I honestly don't know what I would do without you. You've been in my life so long and we've been there for each other through everything, friend drama, school hardships, boy drama, and so on. We know each other better than we know ourselves, which is why you can always be my voice of reason when all my emotions get in the way. And even though we are so far away from each other it hasn't effected our friendship at all. Being states away hasn't effected the fact that you know everything that is going on in my life.
But that just reminds me of how far away you are, and it's just hard to believe we can't be together for this celebration and obvious milestone in your life. You're all grown up now! Welcome to the club of legally-being-allowed-to-gamble-but-not-having-any-money-to-gamble-because-your-life-is-such-a-mess-you've-contemplated-dropping-out-at-least-a-handful-of-times-a-week. If you don't have at least one mental breakdown a week we kick you out of the club. But at least with every mental breakdown we will have each other on the other end of the phone to help get us through until summer.
With all that being said, I guess it's okay that you're so far away on your 21st birthday. I love you enough that you deserve to have a good time even if I'm not there to celebrate with you (I guess). But I'll still be bitter about it.
I guess all I can ask is that you have the good time that you deserve. Your school friends better make sure you have as good a time as I would make sure you have. I'm sure they will. Be safe, have a great time, celebrate as if I were there, and drink one for me. And as soon as we get home just know that we will celebrate all over again.
Happy Birthday!
Loves you to the moon and back,
Your Long Distance Bestest Best Friend.
