It’s been a while since we talked last and I hope you’re doing well. How’s Texas A&M? Texas Tech? Oklahoma State? It sure is weird not being able to get in my car and drive five minutes to see you. Barging in your kitchen like it’s my own, getting hugs from you and your mom and staying up all night with our small town gossip. Being away from y’all is like being in a long distance relationship. But absence makes the heart grow fonder, am I right?
No matter how long we go without talking, I know we can pick up right where we left off without missing a beat. We catch up through FaceTime and phone call dates after class, and that’s the best kind of date I could ask for. I love hearing your funny stories from your weekends out, reminiscing on old memories from growing up and laughing about dumb boys we’ve met at our separate schools. Sometimes, we even plan our next trip to see each other and talk about all the things we’re going to do over break. I know regardless of how long it’s been since I’ve heard from you, you’ll be there for me whether I’m crying over a boy or just because I miss my dog.
I hope your sorority sisters, friends from class and girls in your hall are treating you nicely and loving you well. I hope they know how special you are and what a big heart you have; and most of all how genuinely lucky they are to know you. They better be taking care of you since I’m not there to hate the people you hate, bring you cookie dough when you’re sad and be your therapist when you’re in a pickle. I can’t help but to compare the people I’m meeting here with you guys—which isn’t fair to them, because you win every time. Because, let’s face it, you’re you. Despite this, though, I hope you’re making so many friends (just make sure they aren’t as funny as me) and lots of memories (just make sure they aren’t as fun as ours). I’m just kidding… kind of.
There’s something so irreplaceable about your friendship. You girls know me inside and out; the good, the bad and the ugly (or as I like to call it, middle school). You’ve seen it all—from first kisses to first heartbreaks, to braces that took over my mouth and the Aeropostale years. Thanks for being constant (while not many things are) during this ever-changing semester. So glad we never have to say “goodbye” for good—just “see you later”.
