A Letter To My Freshman Year Roommate

Dear Freshman Year Roommate,

Thank you. I would like to take this time to reminisce on our year together in our dorm room. Thank you for accepting my friend request on Facebook, and replying to my message. I always told my friends and family that I was scared to meet you. Our first hug on move in day was great, and you spending six hours with me to help me unpack was pretty cool. Our first night out in college was my favorite night. My brother got into a fight, and we forgot you needed a fake I.D. to get into the bars (which we did not have), but we are thankful there is a Chinese place right down the street. As we got Chinese and took the bus home, I knew at that moment you were going to be my person.

Thank you for trying to eat healthy with me, even though before we went to bed we always split Chinese or cookies five nights out of the week. Also, I really appreciate you dancing fifties dance moves to Fetty Wap with me, because we thought it was funny. Wine nights were never casual because we spent the first half of the night talking about life and taking pictures on the webcam, to finishing all the alcohol when we had an early morning class. Getting a trainer was an experience, and going to the gym on our own was an even bigger experience. Thank you for always going up with me for more food in the dining hall because I got nervous to walk alone.

I would never want to lay in bed on my phone next to anyone else but you. I also am so thankful to be able to sit in a room with you, and there be no awkward silence. Thanks for sharing everything of yours with me, and watching sad movies together just because we needed a reason to cry. Thank you for going through every argument and fight with me, even when they were unnecessary. It was really mean of you to make fun of me when I got sad every time you left the room at night. It is okay though, I just slept in your bed anyway. You let me have the true experience of a roommate and I am so thankful to have you by my side each and every day. I understand that you are a blonde, and sometimes you do not understand things. Yet, I never understand things either. My sister said we are so similar because we go together like Nikolai Vodka and pink lemonade from the dining hall, the double stuffed cream to the vanilla Oreo, the Blair to my Serena, the Payton to my Brooke, and the mate to my room. I love you endlessly and thank Facebook everyday for finding that cool soccer picture of you.

So I am happy to take this time to thank you for spending freshman year in the same room with me to hold all the hangouts, meetings and pre-games, and to share every waking moment together. Very laid back, sometimes girly but mostly weird, that is exactly how we are supposed to be. So lucky I met you and so grateful to call you a best friend, and partner in crime. Can not wait to go through every other year as roommates, even though freshman year will never compare.

Love always,

Your Freshman Year Roommate

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
