To My Dad
Julie Myers

Hey Dad,

I'm so glad that out of everyone in the universe I got you to be my dad. You've played thousands of competitive games of yellow car with me, cultured me in Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and are the source of where I get my sense of humor. You have the best dad jokes, as well as just the best jokes, and can make anyone feel welcomed within two seconds of meeting them. I know I always have you to fight in my corner, which is something I can't thank you enough for. You spent countless hours with me practicing so I could make league honors and helping me even when I was being stubborn. You have paid for countless pitching lessons, violin lessons, and more.

You've given me nicknames that have stuck with me growing up and encouraged me to pursue my dreams of becoming a doctor. You know me better than I know myself. You know my type before I do. You believe in me even when I didn't and encouraged me to continue on even when I felt like giving up. You never stop reminding me how proud you are of me. It truly means the world to me.

Every morning and every night, you are positive, no matter what is bothering you or how early it is. You do hard work every single day from sunup until sundown, and I don't think I've once heard you complain or take it out on anyone else. I admire that about you, even when I'm sitting in the passenger seat as grumpy as can be. I admire that you are always humble and kind.

Thank you for coming to all my sporting events and cheering me on from the sidelines. Thank you for buying me all the things a kid could want and providing for me time and time again. Thank you for the family vacations and the long drives to softball tournaments. Thank you for keeping after me even when I give you attitude. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on and not getting mad at me when I accidentally got in a small wreck. Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you for giving me seamless advice. Thank you for always being honest with me and helping me find a solution to any problem. Thank you for helping me with college, for providing me with transportation anywhere I want to go, and always making sure I'm well prepared for whatever could come my way. Thank you for teaching me things daily, whether it be about politics or life lessons.

I can't say thank you enough for all you have done for me over time. You mediate fights and help me fight through any doubts I might have. You constantly support me. You are an incredible dad and truly the best there could be. I am an extremely lucky daughter and have been blessed abundantly by having you as my dad.

There is no one on Earth who loves me quite as much as you and mom do, and I'm so incredibly blessed for that. You have helped to make sure every dream and opportunity can become a reality. I can't say thank you enough, but it's truly all I can't think to say. All that's left is I love you.

I love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living your baby I'll be.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Your Daughter

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
