A Letter To My Big As She Graduates
Sasha Buslovich

Graduation is just around the corner and the big event is accompanied by many emotions. Happiness, nostalgia, excitement. For me, it makes me sad. My Big is graduating and the real world is taking her away. But before she goes off into the big ole world out there, I want her to know a few things.

Dear Big,

Coming into college I never would have thought that I would meet a friend like you. It's weird to think that there was a time where you weren’t a part of my life. I spent weeks on this campus before even realizing you existed. And they may have been the worst weeks of my life.

Thankfully though, God brought placed you in my life at the perfect time; He knew I needed you. And through many dates, 2 a.m. heart-to-hearts, movie nights, cooking adventures, and nights out, we became the very best of friends.

Every time I think about you graduating, it makes me emotional. I know it is selfish of me, but I don’t want you to leave me. I don’t know what I’m going to do when I can’t just walk from my dorm, to your apartment in 2 minutes.

But I know that even though you wont be 500 feet away from me, we are going to continue our adventures as Big and Little. I have no doubt our friendship will last a lifetime.

In the time that I’ve have the privilege of having you as a Big, you’ve taught me some valuable lessons about life.

You’ve taught me the importance of living life to the fullest. You’re always up for an adventure and doing something crazy.

You’ve taught me the significance of demanding what you want. You’re never afraid to let everyone know exactly what you need. And even though sometimes it makes you a pain in my butt, it is an admirable quality.

With that, you’ve also taught me how important it is to speak your mind. You let your voice be heard, loud and clear. I hope you never lose that.

Thank you for reminding me of my worth on those days where I lose sight of my own strength. Thank you for always listening to me vent and giving me advice. And thank you for still loving me, even when I don’t always take your advice.

Thank you for being just as sassy as me, if not more so. "Like Big, Like Little" really rings true when it comes to our outrageous sass levels. I love it.

Thank you for welcoming me into your family. It can be hard living so far away from my parents, but you and your family have always made me feel so comfortable and taken care of. For that, I am forever grateful.

My wish for you as you embark on your upcoming journey is that you make your life exactly what you want it to be. I hope you reach for your biggest dreams and never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Don't ever take "no" for an answer. Don’t ever settle for less than you deserve. Because if there’s anything I know, it’s that you can handle anything that gets thrown your way and do so with poise and strength.

You are full of potential and greatness and love and I hope you show the world what you can do. I love you more than words could ever say and I cannot wait to see where you take your life. Always remember that no matter where you end up, I’ll be cheering you on.

Watch out world, my Biggie is comin’ for ya, and she is a force to be reckoned with.

P.S. You aren't allowed to forget about me. And you have to come visit.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
