Dear Little Sister,
Hey, it’s me- your big sister. I’ve watched you grow before my very eyes and blossom from a small, fragile, crying baby to a smart, caring, outgoing kid. Even though you’re way younger than me, and this may be hard to believe, you’ve actually grown to be one of my biggest inspirations. Crazy, right? My little sister who hasn’t experienced half of the things I have, is someone I look up to…or rather down to. I admire you sis, from the way you boldly say what’s on your mind, to the way you don’t play by the rules, to the way you beautifully and non-apologetically showcase who you really are. See, I wish I could do that; I wish I didn’t care about what people think about me because life would be so much easier. I wish I didn’t care about how well my shirt goes with my jeans or if what I’m saying is funny enough or if my laugh is too loud. I want to be able to be like you: to put on a tutu, boxing gloves, and a jean jacket and stroll around the house casually, not caring that I look ridiculous. I want you to stay this way for forever because when you’re my age, it’ll help. You will be your own person; you’ll be able to strongly go against what everyone is doing without feeling judged. You won’t want to fit into the mold that you’ll slowly realize hasn’t disappeared from high school. Yes, while in college it is easier to be who you are, there’s also that overwhelming cloud of what you’re supposed to be. I want you to realize how beautiful you are, inside and out, and that you don’t need anyone else’s approval to see that about yourself. I want you to know that I admire you and even though you probably look at me for inspiration, know that I look at you.
I want you to be better that me; I want you to shoot higher than the stars, beyond the galaxy, past my dreams. I want you to be the best you can be. Know that I will always be proud of you, no matter what. Know that I will always be at your side, even in the darkest of times. Even if you can’t see me, know I’m with you. I love you more than you know; you’re my light, my love, my everything. I’m crying while I’m writing this because you mean so much to me. Keep on being you, because you are truly one of a kind. You are everything I aspire to be and more. It’s crazy to think that the little, tiny, shriveled being I first held all those years ago turned out to be one of my best friends. You deserve all the happiness in the world and even though sometimes I want you to leave me alone when I’m home, I miss you all the time while I’m at school.
I love you no matter what kiddo,
Your big sister
P.S Now you know why I wouldn’t show you my article when you asked.
