A Letter To My Best Friend From Freshman Year
April Pacis

As freshman year of college ends, I wanted to take the time to thank the person who has made a significant impact in my life, who has my back no matter what, who I proudly call my best friend.

While we only became friends in second semester, since we both refused to make friends during the fall, I can honestly say that you have made the greatest impact on my life in my first year of college. Thank you for always being the person I can turn to for anything. Thank you for the midnight crying sessions at the diner, the 2am trips to Dunkin' Donuts, the random adventures into the city, and the numerous cute candid pictures we just happened to pose for.

I don't think you understand the difference you've made in my life. The night we became friends and cried to each other about our lives is a night I'll never forget. Thank you for being my rock when s*** hit the fan and for pushing me to continue to lead a positive life when all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball and die.

Thank you for pretending to be my lesbian lover at Trads as we attempted to dance away from boys and thank you for encouraging me to go out and have fun. Thank you for knowing that while I may need to be in the presence on a friend, that I do not need to talk. Thank you for sitting with me in silence and knowing not to ask if I'm okay because you already know the answer is no. Thank you for allowing me to crawl into bed with you at 1am and braiding my hair and giving me snacks as I cried to you about stupid boys.

Thank you for the numerous political conversations we had and listening to my viewpoints even though you disagree with me on just about everything. Thank you for accepting my Republican views and loving me regardless.

Thank you for being my other half the last few months and my saving grace when I needed it the most. But mostly, thank you for accepting me as the very awkward and eggy person that I am and for being my best friend.

These next three years without you are going to be so terrible and I look forward to the many FaceTime calls and text messages about the mess we both call our lives. I need you to know how grateful I am for your friendship and I don't know what I would do without you in my life.

Thank you for making my freshman year one to remember.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
