Dear Mr. Bryant,
Thank you! For the countless memories of making last minute fantastic shots to give the Los Angeles Lakers the win. You are the reason I would go outside during the summer with a basketball in my hand and practice the same shots you would make the night before. You taught me to overcome adversity because people are watching how you react to it. Not only did you get me inspired to play basketball but you brought my whole family together to sit down in front of our television set and cheer you on while the rest of the country rooted against you.
I was only in middle school, now I am 22 and cherish those memories. You are the first player I have truly been able to watch through out your career and could not be any more thankful. You are the true meaning of what being a Laker means. You spend hours in the gym, watching film, and competing during games. Legend is an understatement but I know I will be discussing how you played the game of basketball for the rest of my life.
I hope you continue to be involved with the Lakers organization because I cannot see myself watching basketball without you in it.You have announced you will be retiring by the end of the year and it truly is a bitter sweet moment but at the same time I feel happy for you because you will finally be able to enjoy time with your family. Trust me you will love the feeling of knowing that there is so much more to life than just basketball. I believe life is meant to be spent enjoying the different things it has to offer.
I hope I can one day have a conversation with you not about basketball but about how it feels to know you worked so hard to make your dreams come true and making those dreams into reality. I know when the Kobe Bryant statue is put up in front of staples center I will be there and I will probably have mixed emotions. Nothing will come close to that moment because you made the NBA what it is today. Thank you for showing me to get out there and do something because you love and respect it not for the money or the fame.
