College can suck sometimes. Wait…okay…let me rephrase that. College can suck most of the time. From balancing classes, homework, sports, Greek life, clubs, and a social life, things can get pretty hectic. There’s barely time to stop and appreciate your college pals. That’s why I’m writing this letter. Because I appreciate my hometown heroes. In fact, some people don’t even have hometown friends anymore! They’ve lost touch with their high school knuckleheads, and I’m beyond grateful that that didn’t happen to me.

So, home-friends, I just want you to know that you are so, so, so important to me and I’m blessed to have you guys in my life. Here’s why:

1. You know secrets about me that my college friends will NEVER know.

There are just some things that need to be exclusive to my middle school chums.

2. We get to spend the Holidays together.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, the 4th of July, Memorial Day…we’re all home! (But we text each other on Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Labor Day for good measure).

3. Summer.

We’ve never spent a summer apart, and going to the beach every day is just our social norm.

4. You knew me in middle school…and are still friends with me today.

Middle school was easily the worst time of my LIFE. I was so awkward, but you got through my awkward phase with me.

5. You were there for me through all my “firsts.”

First kiss, first drink, first heartbreak, and first boyband obsession (the Jonas Brothers, duh).

6. When we finally hang out it feels SO GOOD.

After months of not seeing each other, that first cuddle session or Applebee’s date means more to me than any stupid, dumb college party.

7. We are friends for life.

Studies show that if you’re friends with someone longer than 7 years, you’ve got a friend for life. So sucks…it looks like you guys are stuck with me.

So all in all, you guys means so much to me and I’m so thankful for you. I’ll never take your friendships for granted, and just know that I’m always thinking about you, even though I’m away at school.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
