A Letter Of Thank You To My Chorus Teacher
Ashton Beals

Dear former-chorus teacher,

You know who you are, so I feel like I don't have to mention you by name. It's been two, almost three years since I've been out of high school and still to this day I look to you as a mentor and a friend. You were basically a second mom through high school because I spent way more time with you than with my actual family. But today I'm writing this letter as a thank you for never giving up on me.

1. Thank you for always being my person when needed.

We all had one person we could literally tell anything to; I'm so grateful you were in my life during my four years of high school. You were literally my person. I always knew I could come to you with any problem and I knew you'd be there for me. You gave the greatest life advice and I can't even begin to describe how that helped me throughout high school. You were a shoulder to cry on. Another mom. A hero to many. Including me.

2. Thank you for always making me laugh.

You were the funniest person I think I have ever known. You would tell these very interesting stories about things that would happen in your life and it was the best thing ever. Oh and your laugh. Oh my god. It's the funniest laugh ever and it's so very contagious. Most of the memories I have with you involve a lot of laughter.

3. Thank you for being a positive influence.

You always brought contagious positive energy wherever you went. I could've been having the worst day ever and there you were the most positive person I think I've ever met. I believe it's because of your love for life and your strong faith. You've helped me through some of the hardest times. You always remained calm and positive with anything that was thrown your way. You always knew God had a plan for everything that was brought into your life whether it was good or bad. I'm grateful to have such a positive person in my life. I'm very grateful it was you.

4. Thank you for listening to me when I rant.

My senior year was the year I got the closest to you. I ranted Lord knows how many times. And you always listened. During my lunch period I'd always come into the chorus room and sit there. Sometimes we'd talk and make conversation and sometimes we wouldn't. But the times we would, it was special to me. You're so easy to talk to. I knew I could confide in you with any issue, and you offered some of the greatest life advice. That I still use today.

5. Thank you for giving me the greatest memories.

Show choir and chamber gave us some pretty great memories. You are probably one of the most comedic people I have ever met. Especially after being on a bus for 14 hours. You were one of us. Truly. You know how to have a good time and to tell a good story. Your stories were never ever dull. Something always happened and it was so memorable. When you got together with other chorus teachers and did little skits for the invitational, I'll truly never forget that. It was perfect. Or just being with certain people. You'd start laughing, and once you started you wouldn't stop. It's the funniest thing to see and personally witness.

6. Thank you for being the best mentor ever.

You are the person to look up to. You are the model of what most people should be. You never once let me down throughout high school. I looked up to you because you were not only an amazing person but the kindest soul. You're the model teacher for every student. Everyone loves you. Everyone thinks you're incredible. Because you are. You treat us like your own family. Even now you still do. And your relationship is different with everyone. You go above and beyond for your students. You are phenomenal. Your passion for students burns with such pride. You love your job and you make it known. And I love that about you.

I could probably go on for hours about how truly wonderful you are. You are so dedicated to all of your students and you are loved by many for that. You are an inspiration to literally everyone around you. I'm grateful for the 4 years of high school I had with you and now being out of high school for almost 3 years, you have become such a wonderful friend. I'm grateful for all that you have done for me. And "because I knew you, I have been changed for good"❤.

Love,

Your former student♥

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
