To my longest best friend,
At this point I'm not sure if "friend" covers it, probably more like "sisters." We used to call ourselves The Divas in Diapers because that's practically what we were. We grew up together and as I write this article, I look back and can't help but think we took some of those times for granted. The nights we spent building forts in our living rooms, taking all of the pillows and sheets we could find, and removing every single couch cushion there was to make our little palace. Or the jam sessions we would have in your room to your Hilary Duff CD. Though neither one of us could sing, or remember a lot of the words, we sang our hearts out not giving a care in the world if your brother was pounding on the door telling us to shut up. Oh, and let's not forget about the infinite number of pictures we would take on Photo Booth. Thousands of pictures that make me wish that I never had a Facebook in seventh grade (BTW feel free to delete those now).
They say that as long as you have one best friend in life that's all you need and boy is that the truth. Of course, we both have made a ton of other amazing friends over the years, but no matter what, you're still the first person I turn to. For advice, or to vent, or to tell you all of my big accomplishments or the new boys in my life. With all of the other friends I have made you're the first one I turn to. As we grow up, we know what it's like to grow apart from old friends, but there is nothing more comforting than knowing that no matter what happens in life, I will always be fortunate enough to have you.
So, to my longest best friend. I can't even begin to thank you. Thank you for sticking around and putting up with my crazy, loud and obnoxious self. Thank you for never failing to be there for me, whether it was the midnight phone calls, or emergency FaceTime sessions -- I am more grateful for those than you will ever know. Thank you for showing me what it's like to have someone who cares so much about you. I know the distance is difficult sometimes, but you always remind me you're just a phone call away whenever I need it. Thank you to you and your family for making me feel as if I'm one of their own. Growing up together, we have each attended almost every family party and it feels as if they are just as much my family as they are yours.
To my longest best friend, I love you more than you could imagine. The past 16 years having you as my best friend have been filled with highs and lows, but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. Here is to another 16 years.
Love always, your longest best friend.
