Dear Sis,
As we've gotten older, we have for sure gotten closer. There aren't many things that I wouldn't do for you (even though we still want to rip each other's hair out from time to time). As I continue to watch you grow into the amazing young woman that you are, I can't help but think of some things that I maybe haven't told you, but that I hope you somehow know.
1. When it comes to friends, always choice quality over quantity.
The ones who are your true friends will always stay, always support you, and always pursue you. Don't ever mistake a good friend with a friend of convenience.
2. Don't let the wrong guy become the center of your universe.
In the wise words of Dr. Christina Yang "He isn't the sun. You are."
3. It's okay to talk about yourself.
Tell your friend that you feel really happy today or that you fell up the stairs. It's okay to talk about yourself..you aren't selfish. You're human.
4. You're going to be heartbroken one day.
It's going to hurt like hell. Surround yourself with good friends, a supportive family, and your dogs. You will get through it and come out stronger. There are ALWAYS more fish in the sea.
5. Just because you're stuck, doesn't mean you've failed.
College is a whole new world of confusion. At times, you're going to feel like the dullest crayon in the box. Always remember that you're at school to be challenged and not everything will come to your brain as quickly and naturally as you might hope. You ARE smart. You DO know what you're doing and you WILL get through the semester without melting into a puddle of tears.
6. It's okay to be sad for no reason.
You don't have to be able to pin point why you're crying. It's okay just to have good old fashion ugly cry.
7. Enjoy time alone with mommy and daddy.
It may not feel real now, but sooner than you realize you won't be seeing them every day. Eventually, they will be a car/train/plane ride away and you'll find yourself wishing you spent less time with friends who aren't there anymore, and more time having dinner with them.
8. Try and learn to cook.
I'm telling you watching food network is not enough. Properly cooking chicken is an art. Pay close attention to mom and dad when they cook you will not regret it.
9. You don't NEED makeup.
Even though make up can make you go from feeling like Dobby the Elf to Kendall Jenner, it isn't a necessity for every day life. You're beautiful no matter what.
10. I will always be there.
Whether I'm across the hall or a plane ride away, I will always be there when you need me. No matter what.
Love,
Your Big Sis
