An Open Letter To My Best Friend

We are always one phone call or one text away.

To my Best Friend,

We met a little bit later on in life at a halloween party for a mutual friend, but our friendship has since bloomed. This is my thank you letter to you (you know who you are). Thank you for all you have done for me. You have taught me what it means to genuinely care for other people.

We have so many memories that it’s hard to recount them all. However, the one that stands out the most is the time we took a train to Boston for the weekend. It was one of the most fun weekends I have had ever.

Albeit one of the most tiring and coldest weekends I’ve ever experienced in my 22 years of life. I remember you texting me one night saying “let’s go visit our friend” and I was all like yeah okay, I can’t afford that and my parents will never let me do that.

But I was wrong, to my surprise, my parents were okay with the idea of us going. So we hopped on a train a month later and spent the weekend visiting friends in the Boston area. I also remember when we explored the city of Philadelphia for my 21st birthday. It was very interesting, considering the fact that I had only been there once before and you had never been there before. Essentially it was the blind leading the blind.

However, it’s not the traveling that I enjoy most. My all time favorite memories are the countless times that we hang out randomly. We’ll be bored and alone texting each other about how bored and alone we are and then we decide to just hang out. We don’t necessarily always “go out” but we always find time to hang out, even if it’s just sitting in my basement. Or our countless random trips to target even though neither of us need anything from Target.

You are going through a rough time right now, but I wanted to just say thank you. You are honestly and undoubtedly one of the sweetest most genuine people I know. You’ve stayed by my side through everything. You’ve been there for me through the process of losing “friends”, through family troubles, and through my most recent endeavors of going away to college.

When I left for school I was afraid that our friendship might become one of history. But that did not change. I realize that no matter how far away we are, we are always one phone call or one text away. With that being said I want you to know that no matter what happens I will always be there. My phone is always on and I’m always there to talk if you need it. You are truly one of a kind.

Love always,

Your Best Friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
