To the first girl I called my BFF,
We didn't end up being best friends forever like we'd thought. Actually, we haven't spoken to each other in a little more than nine years, but that doesn't mean our memories are gone. Occasionally, I'll think about all of the nights we almost had sleepovers. Sorry, I always got too homesick to stay the whole night, even if you promised a great breakfast in the morning. I'll never forget going to gymnastics every Wednesday and hanging out in the bathroom to avoid doing warm-ups. Also, thanks for going through the awkward Yu-Gi-Oh card collecting phase with me. It's nice knowing someone else out there is trying to block out that time in their life.
We met in pre-school, way back when naps at school were a thing and no one knew what a GPA was. Little did we know, we lived in the same neighborhood, so play dates were a regular gig. There are way too many good memories for me to write about, but I want to thank you for every single one of them, even the bad memories. You were with me every step of my childhood, and I wouldn't have wanted to do it with anyone else.
As we got into middle school, we went our own ways almost instantly. I was confused, at first, was I not cool enough? Granted, I was a little weird, and I wasn't the most outgoing person, but we were so close. Eventually, I made my own friends, and you did, too, and we never spoke again. It was the end of the supposed "best friends forever."
Though we no longer speak, I still want to thank you. Thank you showing me what it's like to have a best friend and to form that bond with someone. Thank you for guiding me through all of the elementary school drama, and most of all, thank you for letting me play your "Sims" games. A little piece of me will always hold on to that friendship and cheer you on in your future endeavors. I sincerely hope you get to live the life we dreamt of together when we sat on your swings in your backyard.
All the love,
Your first BFF
