I was raised twenty minutes away from my boyfriend, that I hadn’t met until we were in college. Some say, it’s a small world, but I say it was meant to be. When I started to date my boyfriend, I was so nervous to meet his family. I had so many thoughts running through my head wondering if they were going to like me for who I am. I remember walking into the house on a cold, snowy day, smiling and thinking I could get used to this feeling. Everything about it felt right, it felt like I was home. About a year ago, I was filled with needless fears, but now I feel apart of the family. As I spent more and more time with your family, you have become my second family, and I’ve realized I have a lot to thank you all for.
Thank you for making me apart of the family.
Accepting someone into your family isn’t always easy, but from the moment I stepped into your house, I felt at home. I was welcomed with open arms by each and every single one of you. From Grandma, Papa, and Mimi loving me like their own granddaughter to cousins who have become my cousins in a way I couldn't explain, to his sister and fiancé letting me be apart of their wedding preparation to finally, Mr. and Mrs. raising the man I fell head over heels in love with.
Thank you for sharing your life with me.
The late game nights, engagement parties, weddings, and family holiday parties have been nothing short of perfect. It is so heartening to be a part of these family moments and make memories we can laugh and reminisce about in years to come. Being welcomed into the family and being apart of all these moments have been truly a blessing.
Thank you for loving me.
With time, you have gotten to know me and loved me for me. There are many ways to show someone that you love them without coming straight out and saying it. I can always count on you for fruit in the fridge, thoughtful gifts here and there, and always choosing a restaurant that has some sort of salmon on the menu. I couldn't tell you the amount of times someone has said, "if they mess with you, they love you." I have had my fair share of fingers in my ears, tickle tortures, and someone always telling me I have something on my shirt. After a while, I knew all their jokes, and now I'm not afraid to stick my fingers in their ears every so often.
I was blessed with not only one amazing family I was raised by, but another I can truly call family. Many of you have filled the empty spaces that I missed and others have added more love than I could ever ask for. I can’t thank you enough for that.
With Love,
His Girlfriend
