Dear Best Friend,
When I first went to college, I had no idea how I would find people with common interests, let alone make friends out of them. I was nervous about introducing myself to new people and getting through the awkward small talk that I felt like I was never good at. I never thought that you would become the best friend I would ever have when I first saw you in class, which sounds like a cheesy line from a romantic comedy. I think our paths were destined to cross, though, because I started seeing you all over our small campus.
Our first conversation was obviously awkward beyond belief, I mean, have you met us? I'm so glad we suffered through our first dinner together because I feel like we were instantly bonded after that. You became more than my best friend during our first semester at college; you became my confidant, my rock and my one-person support system. Every night when I needed something, you were there for me. I can never return all the favors you did me, but I promise I'll spend a lifetime trying to. I know I can always count on you, even though we met just over a year ago.
You're one of the most important people in my life, right up there with the fam. I can't believe how different my life would be without you. You've brought me some of the most sincere joy I have ever felt. Spending time away from you is hard because you're my better half (more cheesy lines), but I wouldn't trade our friendship for the world. I love living less than a two-minute walk from you at school and I love getting to visit you over breaks. I promise that one year, we will be able to spend our birthdays together and there is nothing I want more than that.
I cannot thank you enough for the amazing times we have spent together and the not so amazing times either. You've turned school into my home away from home and you've become my family in a place I felt so alone in at first. Thank you for being there for everything. Thank you for always getting food with me at random times. Thank you for coming over whenever I text you, "come over," or letting me come over when I give you no notice. Thank you for letting me third-wheel you and your boyfriend all the time, even for an entire week during the summer. Thank you for showing me what a best friend is and thank you for being the best friend I never knew I would have.
Love you forever,
Your Best Friend
