We are in 2016. What does that mean exactly? That means;
Kanye West can sell a distressed sweatshirt for $2,600, and people will buy it, you can create a video about your friend Daniel's vans and practically become a celebrity and the rivalry between the Democrat and Republican parties is as heated as ever. We are not brought into this world declaring we will be supporting a particular political party for as long as we live. It is something that we decide when we are old
enough to understand the intentions of each. I identify as part of the
Independent party because I believe the morals of a person and whether their intentions are good or bad, is more important than what political party they belong to. These days though, what political party you belong to seems to follow you around as a label and generate both hate and support at the same time just from different groups of people. I have seen
family members attack each other on Facebook because they have different political views and let me tell you, that is ridiculous. Even George Washington predicted that the cause for the separation of our country would be the effect of having these political parties. Have we all forgotten that we are suppose to be in this together? We are all a part of the same country, ultimately wanting the same thing which is positive improvements, so why do we let our different political parties divide us the way they do?

The good news is that it does not have to be this way. Our generation can be the first to exhibit this change. It is important that we, as the future of this country stand together as one despite our different beliefs. We can be an example. Not only an example for the generations to come, but for older adults who may have a closed mind when it comes to this subject. When faced with hateful comments about our beliefs, we can make the choice to keep the peace. It is important for us to stand up for what we believe in, but there are better ways to do it than completely bashing someone else's opinion. It is time for us to put aside our differences and unite, knowing that in the end our president is not what makes America great, we do. So, the next time someone wants to pick a fight with you about your opposing political beliefs or vice versa on Facebook, remember:
1. There is just no defending Donald Trump.
2. We have the chance to be the change.
