Everywhere you look on the internet whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media site, you will find at least one posting regarding politics, but more specifically, the current presidential race. The two nominees have divided our country into extreme sides; you either love or hate the candidate. Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have gone to battle with one another in their individual speeches and media remarks not only concerning their own personal agenda, but their malice of their opponent. Instead of a debate, these two have turned it into a fight. We as Americans are supposed to look up to our President as a leader and role model; how this existing election is horrific and childish. If you didn't know any better, some of their tweets could be mistaken as teenagers arguing on twitter, but in actuality, they are people who are looking to individually become the ruler of this country.
Being the two appointees are so astonishingly hostile to one another, the citizens of this country are acquiring their habits for their own political conversations. Instead of a fair debate between two people, both sides get too heated and angry to even begin to understand the other points the person is trying to explain. There is good and bad remarks that comes out of the mouths of both candidates; these assertions are either being dismissed or esteemed by the United States public. Because the people of this country can't seem to get their voices heard by the supporters of the other candidate, they are becoming overbearing and irate with the comments they say on social media. Once they are able to get their points across with the absence of interruption, people feel power and control.
As great as it is to be able to share your opinion, people love to abuse the power and turn something freeing into something abusive. More often than not, on my Facebook, I see fights from people who barely know each other and making the debate personal. Trump supporters are often labelled as "inconsiderate," "rude," "racist," and "bigoted;" Hillary supports are identified as "immoral," "crooked," and "snarky." Regardless of your party, there is no winning; even if the nominee you support succeeds, this country will remain divided. There is so much hatred that it is almost hard to believe that an entire political party will turn around to support the new president after such a nasty election.
After the next four years are over (eight if the new president is reelected), we must make a change for this country in a big way. We must embrace one another regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. We must love our country and hope to make it a better one. We must come together to elect individuals who will not separate us, but unite us. We must demand to make America a better place for not only us, but for our children. As impossible as it may all seem, we have the power to achieve anything we desire if we stand strong together; our country will never flourish with a divided home-front so it is time we coalesce our values and demands. Citizens should never turn on one another the way Americans have during this election, candidates should have healthy debates with one another instead of the change of hate, and the United States should be able to turn itself around to become the best nation it can be.
Instead of rancor and stubbornness, we must listen to one another with an understanding mind. Not everyone is going to share the same opinions, morals, and demands, but we should be able to respect one another in their decisions. Even if during a debate both parties can't seem to see eye-to-eye, let's just agree to disagree. There is nothing wrong with standing your ground, but we are capable of doing it in a way of deference. There is a time and place to share your political opinions, so make sure you decipher between situations. You do not need to comment on someone's political posts every time you see them post something in opposition to your candidate. You do not need to diminish their opinion or their intellectual ability because of their decisions. But you do need to accept other's beliefs and even try to understand their points to comprehend their standpoint.
