As a teenage girl, mom seemed like the enemy. She stopped you from going out, made you eat your vegetables and gave you a strict curfew. But with the passing years, "mom" turned into "advice giver" and maybe even "best friend."

She was always there with a hug and exactly what you needed to hear during the tough days and long nights. There are always the few important things that stick out in this world, and mom's advice was one of those things. She taught us to be who we are today by instilling important lessons in us with each passing day.

1. You are the most beautiful human on this earth

You probably are and many other people have told you this same thing, but it means so much more when it comes from your mom.

2. Hot cocoa fixes everything

It does and forever will.

3. If something is out of your control, let it be

This was especially important when it came to college decisions, but honestly, I take this one with me everywhere I go, and you probably do too.

4. Everything will be alright

It will -- it always will. But again, so much more comforting coming from your mom.

5. Boys are stupid, and they're probably not worth your time or tears

Mom was always the one we ran to when a boy was being mean or simply ignorant. And every time she told us he wasn't worth it, she was right.

6. You're lucky to have the life you live

Not everyone has a life like yours. Even if it's been a tough day (or week, or month), you have an amazing life and so much ahead of you.

7. Working hard is more important than being "popular"

Remember when the "popular" girls would pick on you? And you felt like a loser? Well, your work ethic says more about you than whatever those girls made fun of you for.

8. Be the best you that you can be

Mom was always all about authenticity and always taught us how being fake would get us nowhere. Also, if you tried your best, that's all anyone can ever ask for.

9. There is no one like you on this planet

Because there isn't. No one's eyes sparkle like yours, and no one is as comforting or respectful or intelligent as you. No one. You're one in a million.

10. Mother knows best

She does. Don't even try to deny it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
