20 Lessons It Took Me 20 Years To Figure Out — And I Won't Be Forgetting Them
Brianna Gagnon

I turned twenty on April 3rd, and it really hasn't hit me. Two decades of my life have flown by. One day I was in preschool learning the alphabet, and the next I'm in my sophomore year of college in classes five-year-old me would never imagine taking. I've reflected on the things I've learned and observed the last twenty years, and although it was hard, everything here was essential in the creation of who I am today.

Cheers to 20 years!

1. 20 is monumental yet not monumental all at the same time

2. When given cake you better eat it and eat the whole thing

3. Don't stress over someone toxic, just drop them and don't look back

4. Self-care is important and should always come first

5. That being said, seriously, take time to do things you love, or you'll lose yourself

6. Guys seem to suck more than ever, but there's one out there who finally won't

7. Don't go looking for mister right, let him come to you unexpectedly

8. Large girl squads are overrated, it's much better having a few close friends you can rely on for anything

9. Be addicted to social media, not drugs

10. Don't ditch friends for a guy, it's really disrespectful and gets very old

11. It's OK to not know what you're doing, but it's time to start taking the steps to figure it out

12. Family is there through thick and thin no matter what, never forget that

13. Kindness goes a long way, but don't let people step all over you because of it

14. Pick out and perfect that special outfit for going out that makes you feel and look amazing

15. If it's meant to be it will be, if not, take it as a lesson and grow from it

16. Your parents are always right and it's only taken me 20 years to finally get it

17. Breakups suck, so take time to heal, you were fine before you met him and you'll be fine without him

18. If it won't matter in ten years, don't let it affect you now

19. There is only one you, embrace that and use it to your advantage

20. Time flies by, take pictures, take risks and have fun

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
