If you haven't seen "Legally Blonde" before, you are either a liar or a hermit. Either way it is still a must watch for everyone because it is the quintessential girl power movie. The protagonist Elle Woods doesn't let the men in her life control her, but uses their doubt as a boost to carry on being better than them, both intellectually and morally. Elle is a hero to so many disillusioned girls who think that they cannot be what they want to because they are women. Here are 15 reasons why Elle is the best person I know:
1. She never gives up.
There are so many times in this movie when it would have been so much easier to give up. When Warner breaks up with her, when she doesn't do well her first day, when she is the victim of a prank at the hands of Vivian, etc., but Elle is determined to make her life her own no matter who tries to stand in her way, and she puts in massive work to do it.
2. She doesn't let stereotyping stop her.
Elle is seen as a dumb, pretty blonde girl, but she knows she can be so much more than that. She is confident in herself and sees that if she puts her mind to it, no one and nothing can stop her.
3. She stands up to bullies.
So many bullies in just one movie. Warner with his contemptuous attitude toward her, Callahan just in general, Vivian at the beginning, and pretty much everyone else at Harvard except Emmett. However, she doesn't let those people have their laugh without showing them that it isn't right to bully and demean others.
4. She faces her mistakes.
Elle heads to law school and does the bare minimum, getting her kicked out of class the first day. Later, she realizes that this is not the way to succeed at her dreams; she gets back to work and kicks butt.
5. She takes criticism and puts her mind to fixing it.
The most obvious time would be when, at the party, Warner still does not believe she is serious despite her getting into Harvard. She realizes to prove that she isn't what he thinks she is, she will have to put in more work than ever before. She rises to the challenge, though, and is willing and able to be one of the best.
6. She isn't afraid to speak up.
Elle isn't afraid to say when something is wrong, no matter if its a slight against her or an injustice in society, she is willing to fight to make it right.
7. She owns her way of doing things even if they go against the grain.
When Elle gets the alibi, everyone and their mother tells her to betray the client's trust and tell Callahan, but Elle knows there is another way so she refuses. This was a risky move, but helped to keep the client's trust and she still made her case without it.
8. She supports her friends even when she is in a difficult time.
Despite Elle's own problems, when she discovers that it's Paulette's dog's birthday, she knows that she must do whatever it takes to reunite them.
9. She cares about everyone, even dogs and mean people.
No matter how many times Vivian was mean to her, Elle is still nice to her when Vivian comes into her room to borrow a brief. In the second movie, she even stands up for the welfare of animals, against animal testing.
10. She isn't afraid to break traditional societal roles.
She is fine with being smarter than the boys, succeeding at a trial where her male professor does not, or beating her boyfriend at school honors.
11. She would quit before doing something wrong.
She doesn't sleep with Callahan even knowing that it would put her farther ahead in her career because she would rather get there on her own, so she quits instead.
12. She uses all of her knowledge.
Even when the information seems useless, Elle uses it to win her case. Not only the trial, where she owns everyone by bringing up perm maintenance, but also the dress scene where she shows up a condescending salesperson. Even when she schooled Enrique for lying about his affair with Brooke.
13. She is inspiring.
Obviously, there are so many young girls that went after their dreams after watching this movie, but in the movie itself she kills it with the inspiration. She inspires Paulette to take ahold of her life and helps David Kidney, aka the really tall guy.
14. She perseveres despite setbacks.
No matter how many people tell her she can't do it, no matter how many times she hits a bump in the road, or fails, or is hit on by creeps, she keeps working her hardest and putting her best foot forward.
15. She is confident.
Elle knows that she has a lot to offer, and not just her looks. She knows she can accomplish what she wants without sinking to her opposition's level. Plus, she doesn't need backups.
