Being led on is something that happens a lot (sadly) especially in high school and college settings. Once you start to feel something for a guy (or girl) it doesnt matter whether or not you even end up dating. As soon as there are feelings, there is the power to hurt. Often times, being led on is as bad as getting dumped, or sometimes even worse.
1. You have no right to be upset
When you get led on, many people will argue that you have no right to get upset, especially the guy or gal that lead you on. Since technically you two never dated, they were never actually your significant other in the first place. Without sympathy, one has an even harder time getting over anyone.
2. Where are the memories?
Women and men that dated someone have both negative and positive memories from that relationship. You on the other hand, don't even have that. because there never really was a relationship. Sometimes there wasn't even a kiss or date to go back and remember, yet you were led to believe that their would be. That, ladies and gentlemen, is often times worse than getting something; being promised something and then not getting it.
3. Am I worthless?
Unlike people in relationships, they at least knew that they were worth dating, but since you got led on that may lead you to thinking that you're not worth dating. You starting wondering if they just thought you were fun to flirt with or just some sick form of practice for them. You slowly begin to drive yourself crazy as to what it was that kept him from turning the fling into an actual relationship. Your looks? Your personality? You'll never know.
4. You had no chance.
They never even gave you a chance to show them how amazing of a girlfriend you would make. This just makes things more frustrating for you and makes you question why a relationship never blossomed.
5. Your time was wasted.
The minute you realize that you were being led on, you start wondering if he ever even liked you in the first place. You start wondering if they texted other people while you two were talking, especially during all those nights where he was texting you. Was there even a possibility of a relationship or was there never a chance even from day one? Slowly you'll start thinking about all the hours that were wasted talking to them, when instead you could have been out there getting to know other people and actually flirt with men worth your time.
6. People question your feelings.
It doesn't matter if you two were only friends. It is quite easy to fall in love with someone you text and hang out with constantly. No matter whether or not you are officially dating or not. It is a broken heart either way.
7. You were let down.
There never is a good reason to lead someone on. Most likely there were either bored, keeping you as a backup in case something didn't work out with someone else or worst case scenario, they were purposely playing mind games with you.No matter what the reason is or was, it is always quite devastating to realize that your hope were brought up for no reason. All your day dreams, and hopes just rendered pointless all of a sudden.
8. There is NEVER any closure.
The worst thing in the world is having your heart played with without knowing why. This is what makes being led on hurt more than a relationship. You usually never get the closure that you need in order to move on. As a result you're stuck wondering for life as to what happened.
